I-Team: Priest Removed From Ministry Due To Sex Abuse Allegations Now Works At PHL May 24, 2012 11:30 PM By Ben Simmoneau
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The CBS 3 I-Team has learned that a Catholic priest who was removed from the ministry over sex abuse allegations now holds a sensitive security post at Philadelphia International Airport.
The security checkpoint between Terminals D and E is a busy place where thousands of people – including lots of kids – pass through every day. But you might not believe who the I-Team observed working as a TSA supervisor at that checkpoint this week: Thomas Harkins.
Until 2002, Harkins was a Catholic priest working at churches across South Jersey. But the Diocese of Camden removed him from ministry because it found he sexually abused two young girls. Now, in a new lawsuit, a third woman is claiming she also is one of Harkins’ victims.
The I-Team asked Harkins about the suit as he was leaving his shift at the airport.
“I have nothing to say,” was Harkins’ reply.
The new lawsuit, filed in federal court against the Camden Diocese says quite a bit. It accuses Harkins of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl 10 to 15 times in 1980 and 1981. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the alleged victim, claims the abuse occurred while Harkins was a priest at Saint Anthony of Padua parish in Hammonton, NJ, with one assault even occurring in Harkins’ bedroom at the rectory..........................................................>>>>.......................................>>>>.................................http://philadelphia.cbslocal.c.....ations-works-at-phl/

If you are attempting to make another bigoted anti-Catholic attack, you have absolutely nothing to stand on. The priest was removed from and banned from any ministry or work in the church. The church has absolutely nothing to do with wear he works or lives now.
As for the "troublemaking nuns" part of the comment. Rome does have the authority to investigate and monitor and set standards for what is and what is not appropriate behavior by its nuns, sisters, brothers and priests. I applaud the Pope's taking the issue of inappropriate behavior by its nuns and sisters seriously.

The nuns have been caring for the poor, the ill, the elderly, teaching in schools, and colleges, the homeless, the disenfranchised, those sufferin g with AIDS, doing research in medicine, going to third world countries, giving their lives for social justice like Maura Clark-- not to mention the care for people's souls. And this out-of-touch lunantic Pope is willing to attack American nuns based on their social justice ethics. One would think the Pope would take time from his shopping trips to find the perfect pair of red shoes and celebrate the work of American nuns.

To the extent that some sisters and nuns have taken stances that contradict Church teaching, the Pope has both the authority and the responsibility to investigate and take appropriate action. Pope Benedict has on numerous occasions recognized women religious for their service to the Church:

The pontiff's comments on the sisters come just a month after the Vatican crackdown on the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, an umbrella group that represents most American nuns. The group was accused of not speaking out strongly enough against gay marriage, abortion and women’s ordination.
Addressing a group of bishops from the United States who were in Rome for a regularly scheduled visit, Benedict said he hoped that the current phase of “discernment” would bear “abundant spiritual fruit” and revitalize women religious communities “in fidelity to Christ and the Church.”

They should be encouraged in their dedication, and young women be encouraged to consider a vocation, he said. The Pope also told the bishops that they should be supportive of their priests, whom he called “your closest collaborators”, and be attentive to their spiritual, intellectual and material wellbeing. He said that it was the job of each bishop to govern his diocese with prudence and charity and unify “his flock into one family”.
