I received a reported post message from the admin.
The accuser stated that I posted "off-topic CIVILY and possiby CRIMINALY PUNISHABLE slanderous personal attacks/character assassination"
He then went on to threaten the website by saying "know that as site administrator(s) you are responsible for what is posted on the site and are at least opening yourself up to a CIVIL LAWSUIT"
Now my responses:
1. You are an idiot.
2. Slander is done verbally not written; therefore you are ignorant as well.
3. "Criminally punishable slanderous personal attacks/character assassination" is something stupid that you just made up. It doesn't exist.
4. I posted a question to someone who mentioned a name.
5. Slander is verbal, and libel is written.
6. I copied and pasted it from the person named's google search results. I did so in the form of a question.
7. Libel and/or slander may only be claimed when a statement is not true.
8. I copied and pasted the information. The most I could be guilty of is plagiarism.

Darn, I wish he'd report me - then I could go after him for stalking and open up a WHOLE CAN OF WORMS when I foil for ALL his personal information, including any public welfare benefits he may be receiving, along with a LOT of other information that he hasn't even thought of yet.
I'd suggest the complainer read up on Cubby, Inc. v. CompuServe Inc. ... this forum host has ZERO liability for the content posted by others. Now, if there is a request made by the person, the site operator, IS required (within a certain timeframe) to remove the personally identifiable information, or request the poster remove the information, if possible - and if they refuse to, then there COULD be implications. The CDA dictates that request MUST be made in writing, by the injured party and name, specifically, the legal name of the person posting said information - NOT a screen name, but the actual LEGAL name of the person posting.
So go for it Rhonda, Ronnie, Ron, whatever you're calling yourself these days - you WILL LOSE.

How exactly was his name revealed? Did he use his real name anywhere in the forum?

He must reveal the name of the original poster that defamed or libeled him in any complaint made, along with his name, and the name of the law firm representing him.

You can't libel a screen name.
It must be a statement directly made about a specific person.
It must also be a lie.
Posting freely available Google results is not libel.
Ignorantly accusing others of criminal activity, is highly frowned upon by government officials.

I don't have a "parks and rec job" --- I am an unpaid member of the Parks and Recreation Commission. I was second Deputy Town Clerk -- unpaid -- just long enough to fill in for the First Deputy Town Clerk at the Town Board meeting that was held during her honeymoon.
