$25 for unlimited use of water?  They could charge $100 annually and it would still be a good deal.  I watch people water 24/7.  There are people who have well signs in their windows but use their sprinklers hooked up to the town water supply and water when they want.  Putting in meters would be expensive, so why not just raise the price.  It is still a great deal compared to all other municipalities.

This would be a good way to add revenue and not raise actual taxes.

How about just going to a water meter that charges above a a certain amount of usage...like the people who fill their pools and run their sprinklers night and day all summer?

How about we stop looking for ways to raise our bills ... that'd be a novel idea.  Like consider cutting at least ONE or more deputy TC  positions - or heck, I dunno, cutting spending - just like each homeowner in the town has had to do.

Or hey, better yet - let's attract some businesses to Rotterdam ... now THERE'S a novel approach.

Could this be another DV imaginary friend?   Or could this be McC looking to post anywhere to make communities outside of Schenectady city raise costs so the HIGH city tax BILLS which includes the HIGH city water "fee" won't appear like it is so much higher than neighboring communities.

Yes, MT, get more businesses but not mega stores bordering residential streets, and not taxpayer handouts to build followed by tax exemptions.   After all, we don't want to become another Schenectady

.

Why not go ahead and report them, then they can get the full fine and pay what will be the appropriate amount?  Have you brought the situation to the police?  Code Enforcers?  Town Board?  If not, then I wouldn't suggest a raising of the fees as a first step, why not start by enforcing the laws that are actually on the books?  I know that it's difficult getting done, but that's what they're there for.

First............we know many folks in rotterdam with wells that 'use' them!!

Second......raising the fee for water will be a 'real business booster'!!!

Third.........How'bout going after those that were tied into the sewer lines and never paid for it....eh?

Rotterdam needs more revenue?
How'bout negotiating a fair police contract that will benefit the taxpayers instead of the cops?
How'bout collecting als $$$$ from REMS?
How'bout abolishing the rotterdam senior gossip center?

just some thoughts

Raising the water fee will just punish those who don't use that much water. If the town needs more money cut excess un-needed positions and eliminate wasteful spending.

Hey, good idea.   Did REMS ever sign the contract that the Town presented them?

If a contract was signed by REMS it was signed on flash paper.

$100 annually would still be a great deal.  A good way to add some revenue for the town.  And reporting people would be a FT job.  I bet there is someone on your street watering today in the rain.  I have a neighbor who not only has his in-ground sprinklers running almost 24-7, but he uses a regular sprinkler on top of that.

Yes, there are, but I'm not the one coming on here and stating that we need to raise the taxes and fees.  In fact, I was out early this morning (4 AM - 5 AM timeframe) in Colonial Manor, WHILE IT WAS RAINING, and saw that people were watering their lawns.  I bet this would be a daily occurrance, unless they wake up at that hour to turn on the water.  Why don't you let someone know so they can go and enforce it?  Maybe you should notify your neighbor that it is illegal and you will start reporting them.

If that's true, then when you get your bill this summer, why don't you just send that amount.  I'm sure that the former Sheriff and the former Chief of Police can find a way to spend your extra money in sheer moments.  Fact is, it's probably already spent, they're just waiting for your check.

Probably sprinklers set up on a timer - they don't know that it's raining.

Many of the houses that are seen watering in the rain and watering out of hours are on water timers and will water even when no one is home. We're supposed to be able to water every other day according to your house number and that should keep any lawn green without watering 24/7.
