Dam Shadow you have  a good memory even remembering the horses names   Remember the little turnabout the ponies hooked to, that was ok till I hit about 8 lol.

I ended up owning a colt for a short while, parents divorced, sold him at 1 yr. old. I saw him the day after he was born and fell in love : )  I don't know if any of you used to know Dave Kugler?  He was Dennis's brother. Dave owned a horse barn out in Mariaville and he and his wife Carol gave me lessons. He used to pick me up on Saturdays and I'd help clean stalls etc to help pay for boarding. I didn't realize being a kid how much boarding was.

That's when my "normal" and mostly happy  childhood ended.

Then my Mom married the devil himself : (

It's no wonder me and my BF would buy beer almost everyday at Little Super and get loaded. We both were trying to get rid of alot of pain.

And life spiraled downhill.

I went to college with Dave Kugler when his Dad was still running the gas station on Bway. Dave was driving the Buick with a straight 8 in it and we made some real fast runs up to Saranac Lake before the Northway was built via Rte 9 and Rte 73. I believe Dave went to North Carolina State for his last 2 years of college.

YUP used to buy my beer there when I was 12

I had my 18th birthday party at Hank's tavern on Turner Ave.

He asked me how old I was and when I told him he laughed and said you've been coming here for five years.

Yep, we used to play behind Grant's, after we were old enough to cross Curry Rd.

I can remember even back then that my parent's didn't shop at "Central Markets" - instead shopped at Loblaw's on Guilderland or A&P on Chrisler/Curry.

Where was Loblaws on Curry Rd? I remember the one by Bernies Fish Market on Guilderland Ave.

I just read an advertisement for Gabriel's Market in the 1944 newspaper and the Address was 2047 State St.

That was a nice area back in the day and I still remember feeding the Freihofer horse when they would deliver bread and cookies every day.

Bill Kochem used to drive the horse drawn wagons for Freihofer's. He's 101 years old now. He delivered milk for Mohawk dairy with a horse drawn wagon as well.  Then he drove the trucks when they came around. Later he drove school bus for 25 more years on top of all that. His wife passed a couple years back. They were married over 80 years. He's been retired over 30 years!

You biked out to Frenchies?? dang.

I rode my bike to just outside downtown Schoharie to go fishing. The one mile hill was a killer on the way back.

Dang that's a long ride.

When I get home in a couple weeks, I need to step 10' out my front door to catch some fine sea bass, which is absolutely yummy.  Spend another 10 minutes with a trolling motor and I'm in the Atlantic.  Hope to do more deep sea fishing this year, I've grown hungry for some good fish.

Oh yeah the cardboard boxes : )  And the biggest hill had that one big hump lol.
Me and a couple friends used to ride our bikes out to Canages? in Rotterdam Junction to go horseback riding. Once I got a flat on the way and had to walk half way there and all the way back.

The pony farm. I remember going there too.

I meant to ask where the A&P was on Curry.

There was one on Broadway and a Saveway Market at Broadway and Vischer, that later turned into P&C and moved to 5 corners.
