RAVENA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 25-year-old upstate New York man has been arrested after troopers clocked him driving his motorcycle at 170 mph on the Thruway.
State police say a trooper first observed the motorcyclist going 166 mph Wednesday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 87 just south of Albany. The trooper pursued the biker and was able to get the Suzuki motorcycle's license plate number and a description of the rider when he slowed down in traffic.
But the man sped off again, and other troopers clocked him going as fast as 170 mph. Troopers eventually stopped him in New Paltz.
Police charged Nikkolaus McCarthy of Charlton with fleeing police, reckless driving, speeding and operating a motorcycle without a license.
He was being held in jail on $20,000 bail. It couldn't immediately be determined if he had a lawyer.

At that speed on the Thruway, you are closing on cars at 100MPH!
The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness. John Kenneth Galbraith
saw a quote from him when questioned by police, he replied "The bike will do 190."
He should be 190 before he's allowed to drive again. The bike has to be a Suzuki Hayabusa

I did too....until I was about 21, then I grew up. If I did anything crazy, I made sure I'd only hurt myself. I've been riding motorcycles since I was 18, its an assumed risk that I accept.

This guy is nuts. Most people's cars can go over 100MPH. It doesn't mean that they should drive down public roads at that speed. I myself have driven extremely fast, and it is quite the rush, but I was on a closed track at Lime Rock, with proper instruction.
Driving fast is a hell of alot more complicated than just giving it more gas.

On this we agree... I took a two day "corporate intro" course at Lime Rock with Formula Dodge cars. Anyone that says race car drivers do nothing more than play a real-life type of video game have never been on the track behind the wheel. The g forces after 20 laps or so, even in the relatively slow formula Dodges will wear you out.

When I heard this for the first time on the news today, I thought they made a mistake! Then I heard it repeated throughout the day...and realized 190 mph was correct! OMG!!!
Can't believe that no one was hurt or killed!!

Speed demon: Nikkolaus McCarthy, 25, was clocked going up to 170mph on his motorcycle in upstate New York But the man sped off again, and other troopers clocked him going as fast as 170 mph.
According to The Saratogian, McCarthy travelled approximately 50 miles in 20 minutes before he was forced to slow down because of traffic in New Paltz. The Times Herald-Record reported that the traffic bottle-necking at the New Paltz thruway exit forced McCarthy to slow down and yield to traffic. He reportedly told troopers that he was running low on fuel. When they told him how fast he was going, McCarthy allegedly told them his motorcycle ‘could easily go over 190 miles per hour.’ Police charged Nikkolaus McCarthy of Charlton, New York with fleeing police, reckless driving, speeding and operating a motorcycle without a license. He was being held at the Albany County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail. It couldn't immediately be determined if he had a lawyer. According to the Herald-Record, McCarthy was driving a 2007 Suzuki. However, a spokesperson for the Thruway could not further identify the model to MailOnline.
