He was a total stand up guy. He sure as hell wasn't broke. He's considered 2 steps below God in SD. Ran a very sucessful resturaunt/sports bar. Talked to his kids and even his ex-wife all the time.
And he REALLY gave back to the people of SD in the form of exeptional volunteer work.
I guess you really don't know what's in a man's head....It's a real shame

fu**in heartbreaking.... I hope someone figures out WTF happened. What he did with kids and the SD community as a whole is just totally mind blowing. This took everyone by surprise

My youngest son and I were watching ESPN and they had former players and friends of Junior on. When the news was that he was shot in the chest both my son and I turned to each other at the same time and said what? JMO but that is unusual for a supposed "suicide"
Then they has his Mom on and anyone watching whose heart didn't ache for her
There's plenty of speculation out there about how this may be related to the Dave Duerson case (head injuries)....................................the very first reports I heard were already going that route......................me, I'll wait...............................Buck said it best though........."I guess you really don't know what's in a man's head....It's a real shame"
Junior Seau texted his children “I love you” before his suicide Posted by Michael David Smith on May 3, 2012, 7:03 AM EDT Junior Seau AP
One of Junior Seau’s last acts before shooting himself in the chest on Wednesday was to tell his children that he loved them.
His ex-wife, Gina Seau, told U-T San Diego that on Tuesday he texted her and each of their three children separate messages: “I love you.”
“We’re all in shock,” she said. “We’re beyond sad and beyond shocked. The kids and I are just huddled together at home. There is no way to make sense of this. I hope and pray everyone remembers what a wonderful man he was.”
It may be impossible for Seau’s daughter Sydney and sons Jake and Hunter to ever understand why their dad took his life. But in his last moments, they were the people Junior Seau was thinking of.
I know that suicide via a gunshot to the chest is pretty rare, but I wonder if Seau had a moment of compassion to spare his family the horror of the visual of a head shot..

In most cases, suicide is a selfish act. If he thought of his family, he never would have gone that route. They get one "I Love You", and a lifetime of guilt and doubt for his actions.

"Until more research has been done, Whyte said the public should not jump to conclude a definitive link between concussions that Seau may have experienced in his career and death." and: " While there is more concern over players and suicide, Whyte said sports are likely becoming less dangerous because of all the research being devoted to safety guidelines, proper equipment and the aftermath of a career of brain injuries.
In 2009, the NFL instituted new rules that require clearance from independent neurologists to allow players who suffered concussions to return to the field. The league also imposed stricter guidelines to reduce the number of helmet-to-helmet hits." ABC News. http://abcnews.go.com/m/story?id=16264211&sid=26

ergo this suicide IMHO is not necessarily as you put it a "selfish act", but rather one of desperation due to head trauma caused by the repeated pounding asscociated with contact sports......................we could go on for days on this, I've got better things to do right now so I'll leave you and all the pundits on the airwaves and ethernets to ponder it.........................sad no matter how you look at it...........

just thought this was an interesting re-format
and head traumas over time CAN cause brain damage/dementia/parkinson's symptoms etc......I work with folks with a sort of 'head trauma' called alzheimer's and yes they express the want of death.....they have moments of clarity and are VERY aware of their circumstance, which then triggers a whole tidal wave of feelings and inability to cope with the messed up id of one's self.....we could drug ourselves to not feeling, going through life as a chemical zombie (we were that before), that is more tolerable to our families, or the other option is to just leave the crappy mess behind, because no one can fix it for you.
Am I selfish? YOU BETCHA!!!!
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
