Republicans at one time supported Planned Parenthood, some even took the lead in it's funding (GHW Bush).
Republicans (libertarians) supported Choice.

Today's (so called) Republicans oppose both.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

That was Governor Rhodes that ordered the National Guard in to Kent State at the Mayor's request.

Sure, Nixon was a d'bag, but he still had many good ideas.

That doesn't change the fact that today's Republicans hate many ideas that a Republican started.

My experience is that all things in life are cyclical...... what was black is now white, what was up is now down, what was left is now right and on and on and on...........and someday what is now white will be black again etc.....................It's all just a "Circle Game" - Joni Mitchell................not sayin' you're right or wrong, I just know in between the black and white there's a shitload of gray that nobody seems to care about.......................This bus just stopped. I'm gettin' off here and boarding the one that has all the crazies. I'm more comfortable there. Peace out..........

The neo-cons took the party over in the 60's.  They reluctantly gave control of the party to the Buckley conservatives when Reagan won in 80, but forced him to run with GHWB as VP.  In 1988, Buckley conservatism was but a bad memory to the neo-cons.  The neo-cons sold big government military interventionism and corporatism as small government ideals.  Big government was good as long as the government money went into "patriotic" military ventures and crony capitalist welfare - NOT social welfare.  Today's Republican Party is that of Leo Strauss, William Kristol, Paul Wolfowitz, and George HW Bush.

Buckley Republicanism is making its way back.

ideas are bulletproof mankind is fallible

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
