During the final years of the Turnpike Drive-In on Rt. 20, they switched over to a low powered AM radio transmitter so that you could just tune the movie in on your car radio, rather than keep repairing the speakers.

The results were hilarious as during the last couple of years, they started showing soft core porn.
When driving down Rt. 20, you could pick up the radio signal for about 1/4 mile in each direction.
There are few things funnier than the soundtrack of a soft core porn movie, and the look on the faces of your passengers is priceless, as you innocently turn the radio from "Me and You And a Dog Named Boo", over to the sounds of wah-wah guitar, and moaning.

My family used to take us to the Mohawk Drive-In quite a bit.
I remember seeing Bonnie and Clyde, Patton, Yellow Submarine, M*A*S*H, and dozens of others there.
Occasionally we would ride bicycles up and sit behind the fence and watch. The snack bar had outdoor speakers, so you could hear well enough, and there was usually a beer party or two going on.

Wow, that's BIZARRE.  This same photo showed up on a facebook page from Hattiesburg Miss. on Friday ... guess they weren't from Carman affterall - or maybe they are and it was just more popular than anyone thought.

Those were the good old days. We caught the tail end of it and watched most of them become condos and strip malls. Drove by Malta Drive In last night. Their sign will one day show up on American Pickers I imagine, and there will be a housing development there. Just give it time.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The Daily Gazette

MALTA — A Clifton Park man was arrested after he fired a shotgun at the Malta Drive-In Saturday night, state police said.

Christopher Abaire, 22, was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

According to witnesses, when a fight broke out between people from two cars, Abaire took a shotgun from the trunk of his car and fired two rounds into the ground in an attempt to stop the fight. The fight was stopped, but police arrived and took Abaire into custody. Those involved in the fight fled the scene.
