Police are investigating the “racially motivated” beating of a 27-year-old man who was walking home from midtown bars early Saturday when he said he was jumped by five to eight men who shouted “Trayvon” before the attack.
The exclamation was an apparent reference to Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old from Miami who was shot and killed in February walking back to his father’s girlfriend’s house in Sanford.
His shooter, George Zimmerman, has not been charged.
The case of Martin, an unarmed black teenager who was killed by Zimmerman, a Hispanic crime-watch volunteer, has stirred conversations across the country about race, crime and profiling.
Investigators believe that case was the catalyst for the beating Saturday in Gainesville.
“We do believe that the crime was racially motivated,” Gainesville Police Department spokeswoman Cpl. Angelina Valuri said.
The assailants were black, while the victim is white, Valuri said.
The white man walking home probably had a big bag of skittles... so what could the black men do... they had to attack in self defense.

Of course it was racially motivated. What was this guy doing walking around being white? The assailants had all the right to protect themselves from this white man that probably was thinking about killing a black person. Because, as you know, if you watch news outlets like NBC, white people walk around at night and call 9-11 operators, slurring black people just hoping to get the chance to kill a them. Apparently, white people are even emboldened enough to call 9-11 and describe the whole incident for the record before committing the murder.

We need stand your ground laws when in your video, a bunch of Black punks attack a white man... Or when a White man attacks a Black teen for carrying a bag of skittles and shoots him dead in Sanford Fl.
In both cases, the punks should be arrested.

With or with out a stand your ground law... the person being attacked and beaten in your video would have the right to protect himself. The law changes nothing in that case. In NY State, which doesn't have a stand your ground law... the person in your video would have been justified in using force if being attacked. Your video shows Blacks attacking Whites... for a reason.
In Oklahoma where Whites shot and killed Blacks... the same would have been true... The stand your ground law helps no one and endangers everyone.

Not true, Stand Your Ground has to pass a racial litmus test conducted by the media and race baiters. Due process, investigations and evidence are sooooooo 1990's. Angry mobs and secret presidential panels decide justice in 2012, not judges and jury's. Get with the times man. TIC

The law changes everything in this case. Most laws require proportional force. Depending on the state, if the attackers did not have what is considered a lethal weapon, this person cannot retaliate with a lethal weapon. If a person pulls out a knife, the other person can't pull out a gun and shoot if the other option was to run away from the attacker.
Do I get to stand my ground when confronted with a terrorist? who determines what a terrorist vs a criminal is? oh, and what about hate crimes?

It's just a crime when you follow a teen who's armed with an iced tea and a bag of skittles, and you shoot him because you think he's probably getting away with something. Zimmerman could have walked away... he already called 911... but he was itching to use his pistol, and knew that his daddy, the judge, would get any charges dropped, just like daddy did in all the other cases when Zimmerman was in trouble with the law.
I understand this spoiled bully thinking that he's above the law... he has been above the law all his life, and now he'll likely get away with murder.
