Gas was the same price back in 08, just before the election as well.
That was before trillions in "stimulus" and bailouts. The reasons for the high gas prices are different. In 2008, speculators were running from real estate and going into oil driving up prices. IMO
Same exact thing as in '08, when Bush was claiming that he couldn't control prices, and of course all the candidates claimed he could.

And let's get another thing corrected...Steven Chu (current Sec. of Energy) has come out and said in 2008, that they have to figure out how to get gas prices to the levels of Europe. When asked in a recent Congressional hearing
Chu: We agree there is great suffering when the price of gasoline increases in the United States, and so we are very concerned about this,” said Chu, speaking to the House Appropriations energy and water subcommittee. “As I have repeatedly said, in the Department of Energy, what we’re trying to do is diversify our energy supply for transportation so that we have cost-effective means.”
Nunnelee:“But is the overall goal to get our price” of gasoline down.
