One Point on the entire Druggy Rush/Sandra Fluke story.

Sandra Fluke was a "civilian" in a war of politicians.  She was to testify on an issue before congress, much like many
who were there on both sides of the contraceptive insurance coverage debate.

Politicians, actors, comedians, political pundits, journalists... are all in the public eye.  They are every day soldiers
in a war of  (mostly) words about America.

Attacking a "civilian" in this war is different than attacking GWB, Obama, Jon Stewart, Colbert, George Will etc.
I look at the children of politicians in the same way, as civilians in a war, that hold a different status than the rest
of the political army.

Rhetorically, Rush a general in this war, shot a civilian.

IMO, America turned against Rush partly for this reason.

Sandra Fluke is hardly a civilian..The press wants to pass her off as this innocent law student...its plain not true, she is an activist. One who has co-written a paper that not only feels that businesses who do not provide birth control to their employees are discriminatory, she also presents the same argument for sex change operations. And BTW, how did Nancy Pelosi find this supposed, anonymous law student?

But hey, its her right, just don't try to play the innocent card with a straight face.

My post was a response to Alias's post #21, concerning: "who cares about Rush".

I was responding to your post #20 with the thinkprogress video.

She's not a "civilian", she's a POLITICAL activist trying to influence public policy.  She demanded attention for her cause, and she received attention for her cause.  She didn't testify in congress without a politician and political party authorizing it.  Any Joe Blow off the street can't just show up at the capitol building and demand they be heard by a congressional committee.  It's the media that is trying to turn her into some unsuspecting innocent victim that never wanted to enter the arena of public debate.

I didn't say that Ms Fluke didn't have an agenda, I said she is a civilian.  The head of Planned Parenthood,
Insurance company lobbyist, Family Research Council, etc are all soldiers in a war.  Sandra Fluke was just one
civilian on a list of civilians testifying about her cause. Do you know the names of any of the other civilians
testifying that day?  They never made the press reports.
The only reason Fluke was ever heard of in the press, is that the All Male committee excluded her from testifying.

AGAIN, she is not a civilian...she is at the least, a student soldier. Back at least as far as 2003, she has been a reproductive rights activist. Member of Students Acting for Gender Equality while at Cornell, at Georgetown she was president of Law students for reproductive justice...veteran of countless pro-choice protests...hardly a babe in the woods.

That said, the pubs and specifically Limbaugh walked right into the trap.

OK Cic, we'll play it your way.
She certainly was a stunning candidate to put before the committee wasn't she.  I mean the way she actually,
without saying a word, made the committee drop her from the list of testifiers!!! What a talent.

And the way she managed to twist the media into reporting that she was cancelled... with out saying a word
she managed to manipulate the entire MSM.  Quite an accomplishment!

Even though she was testifying on issues that had been testified on before, she managed to "not testify" in a
way that pushed her to the forefront of the press.  Then the way Sandra FORCED a drugged obese excuse
for a human being to actually insult her publicly  on his radio show... she pulled that off so effortlessly that
it appeared she had done nothing to deserve those insults.  An amazing woman!

I'm sure she will go far in her career at being dropped from committees and manipulating the media with out
even uttering one word.

Now that I see them going after Obama and Bill Maher's $1 million PAC contribution, I'm not so sure Rush started this debate purposely.  Like you said, Rush isn't a green horn in this arena, almost everything is scripted to push the debate.  Were the pubs two steps ahead with Rush's Trojan horse comment?  Was this whole thing contrived to force dems to eat their words condemning Rush, and force them to condemn Maher and force Obama to give back the $1 million?

Whatever Box... If you think that Fluke was just picked by random by Nancy Pelosi, I've got a bridge to sell you.

It was Rush who made her a household name, but then again since liberals hate him and don't listen to his show, the only way the non-rush listeners would learn about it was through the Media. hmmm....

She's been an activist in this arena for at least 10 years, she certainly made herself available to the press, the view, etc, real quickly, didn't she?

I don't think that Fluke was picked randomly... I think she was picked to represent a view that she has quite
a bit of experience and knowledge.
Had she not been dropped from the list to testify, she would have never made any press report and continued
on in anonymity.

That is true, but it would have been a one day story and then dropped off the pages....her name forgotten by the end of the week.
It was the Rush angle that resulted in Fluke leading the news, being on the View ,etc.
It was Rush that opened the door, but I'm sure Fluke, in concert with dem operatives, are running through the House.

Druggy Rush and the Republican War on Women blew this one entirely.  Rush's attempt to discredit Ms Fluke
did exactly the opposite.  I'm sure that Fluke is more than capable to be a spokesman now for her cause, but that
cause was totally out of her (or democrat) control until she was dropped by the committee and then insulted
on Rush.
She is taking advantage of an opportunity that was totally the fault of the Republicans and El Drugo.

The person that was supposed to testify dropped out, and the Dems offered her up as a last second replacement. Issa said 'no' be cause there is a MANDITORY 72hr. vetting period for ANYONE who is going to testify.

But Boxy, you already knew this, and were in no way trying to mislead anyone here in order to make your argument look better

Rush Limbaugh’s Show Airs Over 5 Minutes Of Dead Air As Ad Boycott Continues

There were four separate instances during this afternoon’s broadcast on WABC 770 AM in New York City
where the network fell silent. During the lead in to the show, two and a half minutes of silence was broken
up by a single, solitary ad before Limbaugh hit the air.
Then, towards the end of the first hour of Limbaugh’s three hour program, a public service announcement
was followed by an additional minute of silence before Limbaugh returned.

Of the 86 ads that made it on the air today, 77 of them were free public service announcements donated
by the Ad Council.

Limbaugh claims over 50 companies leaving had no effect on his show.

Nance says Obama and his re-election campaign are advancing a double standard by singling out Limbaugh for criticism over liberal perpetrators of sexist speak.   Limbaugh has been taken to task and later apologized for calling Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" for advocating for free coverage of birth control in employer health plans, which Obama favors.
What did Maher say that has drawn the protest from CWA?
Nance cites instances when Maher, a comedian whose show airs on HBO, reportedly called former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin a "dumb twat" and Palin and Rep. Michelle Bachmann "boobs" and "two bimbos," and said of a woman seen breast feeding in public, "don't show me your tits!" The comments were made in a satirical setting, but Limbaugh has said he was joking, too.
