Unreal. During a caution cars were running under yellow and a car lost his brakes or something he smashed into the back of a safey vehicle on the track clearing off debri from an accident. The vehicles are filled with 200 gallons of jet fuel because they have these jet engines mounted on them that they use to blow things off the track and to dry out the track when it get wet from rain.
The fuel is spilling down the track it is all on fire. I think the race has been called finished with 40 laps to go. The safey vehicle driver appears to be injured but was able to walk to the ambulance. Race car driver is ok
Bet that track is melted and ruined.

That race was jinxed from the start. It's amazing nobody was hurt, because the crash was spectacular. 200 gallons of jet fuel from the dryer truck went on fire, with the flames following the river of fuel as it ran down the track.. They're not sure if the track is usable right now. |

Time for the federal government to be trusted to make the decisions as to what is best for us all. Ban racing or set limits for safety. I trust them to make those decisions, like Miss Patrick does. |

That's an understatement. Wow.
Only popped in here because of the "intermission" for they figure another 30 minutes.
We almost planned on going down this year, but there's always this conflict with school. If we fly instead of drive down, maybe the kids can fly back on Saturday and we'd do Monday, unless a rain out, perish the thought.
Local guys race down there, Volusia. Would love to see them too |

They finished the race after a 2 hour delay. Matt Kenseth won. |

They should have kept the race going with the wall of fire |

I think by what they were saying during the race last night that they actually repaved part of the track so that they could finish the race. It eventually ended at about 12:40 AM, if I remember right from last night. |

What I found funny is Fox sports mentioning "jet fuel" every five seconds... Jet fuel is actually Kerosene, in fact the fox announcer started to call it kerosene at one point, but quickly corrected himself, probably as the producer was yelling in his ear. |

The fire may have been a mixture of the Jet Dryer fuel and diesel from the truck if it's fuel tank was also part of the mix. Both are probably kerosene with additives.
The NASCAR Crew cleaned the track with speedy dry, then TIDE and water then patched a small section with a quick drying top coat (applied like a driveway sealer). For all the fire, there didn't appear to be much more damage than a scratch from hauling away the wrecked truck. |

to get it cleaned up and ready to race on in two hours was impressive. Montoya hit the safety vehicle in the worst possible spot, right at the jet dryer trailer with its tank. His car looked like total junk after that wreck. |
