bumble - The vets' organization(Disabled Veterans of America) isn't federally funded...it's a national non-profit organization that, if memory serves me correctly, is funded through donations. They may receive some federal or state assistance, but they've got nothing to do with the military, other than they help soldiers. They've got 1.2 million members, so I kind of doubt they're bereft of funding. You can probably find their financials on Guidestar if you've got a minute to poke around.

As for everything else on this thread...man what a pissing match. Bottom line is the only thing holding this up is the normal bureaucratic red tape. No issue here at all.

As I have stated CORRECTLY,  we are waiting for "title issues" to be resolved and for the veterans to take the next step -- at that time it goes on the agenda and the necessary process to review the proposal and take action on the various approvals that will necessary.  

Any reasonable and intelligent person would understand what was said and would not be trying to lie, twist and distort.

Over the past few days the Veterans organizations throughout the county have already been supplied with screenshots of Ron Severson's outrageous comments regarding "waiting for the veterans" etc. There is nothing but scorn and universal outrage at this member of the Rotterdam administration who is sneakily trying to slip blame on THEM while the county is fiddling and taking its sweet time (instead focusing on POLITICS AS ALWAYS). At this stage the well is poisoned and they believe they will not be treated fairly by the town knowing someone as prominent as Ron S. is up there with a vote and he is trying to scapegoat the organizations.

Plan set to pay back tax on former Draper School

    The three agencies that agreed to pay back taxes required to turn the former Draper School into veteran housing have agreed to pay a little more. But it’s worth it, they say, given the project’s widespread support in the community.
    The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority met last week to approve a minor hike in its share of the back taxes that accrued on the Rotterdam school property.
    Metroplex will provide a grant of $64,000, up from $50,000 approved last month, to cover the taxes owed on the building and allow the deed to be transferred to Disabled American Veterans. Schenectady County will provide $64,000 in tax forgiveness on the property, and the DAV will pay the fi nal $64,000.
    The DAV has plans to renovate the 135,000-square-foot school into 120 apartments for disabled combat veterans. The $25 million complex would be the first of its kind in the country.
    “The county is moving ahead on foreclosure at this point, and this will help move forward on transferring the title to the DAV,” said Metroplex Executive Director Jayme Lahut.

I guess the lying, deceiving threesome-of-negativity will find some way to deny that this article was published.  It very clearly indicates that the title issues were being resolved and, once resolved, the help move things forward.    

OLD NEWS...published 2 months.  But how does this article support your claim that responsibility is now with VETS to move forward? It still has not cleared the hurdles of Government ? This article only substantiated what I and all the others have said...it's still in the system and NOT IN THE HANDS OF THE VETS YET! VETS ARE NOT HOLDING UP ANYTHING!!!!!

You're a political hack, so do something to get the stupid political machine to move off their lazy do nothing asses and get this in the hands of the VETS so they can move forward.  This move to Draper by Vets was announced 31 AUG 2010....a year and a half ago, and it's still wallowing in the swamp of the system.  I can't believe the VETS have been this patient....and Rotterdam better hope they continue to be patient until this goes through.

I hope that we will be pleasantly surprised in the end..................but I don't think this will ever fly......although I really hope it does.
