ROTTERDAM
Transcripts of meetings are too costly, Town Board says
BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.

Rotterdam will pay $1,500 for having a legal transcriptionist record the first three Town Board meetings this year, even though the expenditure was never budgeted.
Board members approved a payout that would end the practice of transcribing the meetings this week after realizing how much the service would cost. Town Clerk Diane Marco had initially asked board members to approve a $7,500 expenditure for the service after already hiring Nancy Strang-Vanderbogart for three meetings.
But board members balked at the expense, which isn’t in the 2012 budget. They also realized that they never approved an allocation for the initial three meetings, in accordance with town procedures.
“It wasn’t appropriately budgeted for,” said town Supervisor Harry Buffardi. “There was a cost there that’s prohibitive during these times.”
Hiring the stenographer initially didn’t seem like an expensive proposition. Marco said last month that she had money in her own budget to pay for the $8.25-per-page cost.
“It’s a good thing,” she said at the time.
But some Town Board meetings can become quite verbose, meaning there are a lot of pages of typed minutes. The board’s organizational meeting lasted less than two hours, but generated a 101-page transcript that cost the town $833.25.
Buffardi said having a stenographer also seemed like an unnecessary expense, since the board already contracts a videographer to record all of its meetings. And that costs only $65 per meeting.
“Obviously, it’s much cheaper to go with the recording,” he said.
Board member Robert Godlewski was incensed by the expenditure, both because of its cost and because it was never properly approved before the stenographer was hired. He said the town could face issues if the state Comptroller’s Offi ce audits its fi nances.
“This is a service, and in order to enter into a contract, the Town Board has to approve that,” he said “No department head can go out and contract for a service without board approval.”
Buffardi acknowledged the move to hire the stenographer needed board approval, yet he stopped short of accusing Marco of any malfeasance. ........................>>>>.........................>>>>.......................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01201&AppName=1

Remember when the town meetings were filmed. Maybe the Town Board could invest in a tape recorder and just have the minutes available on line for people to listen to if they wished and the mini cassettes could be kept as their record. This is what happens when you elect the wrong people to office.

Don't we already have a person in this position?  What exactly is it that she's doing?  - other than looking up adversaries personal information for later use ...

TC is not over her head....TC's head if filled with POWER..

This is exactly the behavior she exhibited when she ran the Senior Center.....her way... and was

unconcerned about ethics and the way to lead....Abuse of authority and insubordinate...

HB didn't feel it necessary to "punish" her....WOW....

This is the opposite of what happened when the cruel rules were passed by the TB (not read) for

the employees at the Brass Rail....behavior that she is owed money .... and lost...

Many felt this would happen but no one listened to the reality of just who DM is..

Resign...yes...put her back to "pasture".

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

DM is w-a-y over her head. Transcribing minutes of a tb meeting has historically been part of the job of tc.
It is very disappointing that the new rotterdam tb is allowing this to happen.
It clearly does not show good leadership.

You know what....it is people like you that allow corrupt government in the name of

whatever......you are insane to think there is nothing wrong with what happened.

And you are on a committee (2) that represents good government, by the people, for the people

and support whatever goes on without any afterthought.

Your REGIME is worse than ever before....take that to the bank...and they have already

fattened their pockets.   doesn't say much for being a "TEAM" of leaders when one can take it

upon oneself to do whatever he/she want..........well DUDE this goes beyond

wrong....it's down right unethical and dishonest to try and put one over on the TB...

The former Supervisor was put through unnecessary scrutiny by you and the past TB.

that was not within reason.....none of you respected him as authority....and one person

who constantly was insubordinate continues to do so....how does one live with oneself

and not respect what they stand for???.....

enough said.
