The U.S. Navy will name a combat ship after Rep. Gabrielle Giffords

It would be more meaningful if they named it after Christina Green....

That would be so typical... She was one of those most liberal, anti-military members of Congress.

I am GREATLY pleased over this VERY smart move..  An important election will be held in her district and a NON-POLITICAL person is being nominated by the local Democratic Party in that District....  Indeed it is a tribute to her heroism and the heroism of Ron Barber who ALSO should have a ship named after him....   I fully expect Ron Barber to prevail in that race and the Christening of this ship is a keystone moment and reclaiming that district from the mad and violent anger of the ultra Right - Wing...

I kinda agree Cicero - I figured someone was gonna go there, but was really hoping nobody would.  That's a low blow.

Lighten up.  There's a thread about a 5 year old that died of a brain tumor.  I can't make light of a politician getting memorialized just because of being the victim of a crime?  These people are self absorbed.  I propose we have a USS Madaline in the fleet.  She has touched more lives than Gabby Gifford.

Kinda odd the left were going nuts blaming guns for violence but now they will name a ship that will probably have thousands of kills under it's name within the decade after the victim Am I the only one who sees something wrong here.

Maybe Henry can't see the difference between a military action (like killing Bin Laden) and a deranged criminal,
who wouldn't have had access to a gun if the Right hadn't blocked reasonable gun legislation.

  No

JMO I would think maybe a hospital wing that treats brain injuries or a place of support for those who have been the victim of a violent crime.
