Congratulations to Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas Queen, Defender of the Faith. on the 60th anniversary of her ascendance to the throne. Here is wishing her a long reign --- looking forward to that day - 3 years and 216 days from now -- when she surpasses Queen Victoria as the longest reigning monarch in British history.

For those of us with ties to Great Britain, we enjoy exploring its history and its culture. 2012 will be a great year for those of us who love all thing British ---- we can celebrate the Queen's 60th Jubilee and enjoy the Summer Olympics from London. We can enjoy its wonderful cuisine -- inspired by the days of Empire (upon which the sun never set) there are many dishes created in British kitchens. I particularly enjoy cooking the Indian inspired dishes.

Watch out, now he will threaten to report this cartoon to MI6.

Great Britain has a wonderful cuisine of its own -- with tremendous influences from its once great world-wide empire. Furthermore, it was the great wealth of Great Britain during the Victorian era and Edwardian era that allowed the nobility and the newly rich upper middle class to hire chefs from France and other parts of Continental Europe ... thus bringing the food dishes of many ethnic groups from Europe and the far flung British Empire into popularity.
Much of the cuisine that we eat today was actually the result of the great wealth and influence of Victorian Great Britain ---- bringing ingredients from all around the world to Europe, developing modern conveniences such as cooking stoves and -- probably most importantly -- the invention of the modern kitchen standards (weights,& measures) and - of course - the recipe book.
So Hail Britannia --- and start passing the serving dishes of Tikka Masala and Veal Parmigiana and those other British contributions to the world's cuisine.

The simple truth is that any dish (veal, chicken, eggplant) what Americans know as "Parmigiana" was actually created by an American soldier who had fought in World War II in Italy and then worked in a restaurant in Great Britain after the war. He was responsible for creating and popularizing this dish. His family still owns and operates an Italian restaurant in Great Britain.
Similarly, Tikka Masala is an "Indian dish" that was actually created in Victorian Great Britain by English chefs attempting to recreate dishes from the British Colony of India. There are disputes over exactly where IN Great Britain the dish first appeared but it is commonly accepted to have been created in Great Britain.

DVOR, even the English joke about how bad their food is.... Just sayin
SOME English joke about their food ... SOME Americans joke about how bad their food is too -- most people simply don't know culinary history.
The fact is that the Victorian Great Britain GREATLY influenced modern food --- and YES ... Veal Parm was created in Great Britain.
