" The TSA proves if death camps & gas chambers came to America, there are Americans who would shove fellow Americans in the ovens."
Damned scary isn't it? The "Zeitgeist" that was what we came to know as "America" has been abandoned, and we are left to rely on the "milk of human kindness" such that it is.
I have a theory of human nature (it is my explanation of why collectivism in any flavor, commies, socialists, progressives all fail), that simply states we (humans) are hard wired to only truly care about people that we know.
This aspect of human nature is related to the survival instinct. We care about our family, neighbors, church, union, village, tribe because a long time ago, at an early stage of human development, our wellbeing was closely intertwined with the health and wellbeing of our group. If they prospered we had a greater chance to survive.
Humans that we don't "know" don't contribute to our immediate survival, and may in fact be perceived to threaten it, so it's easy to objectify them and they easily become logs for the fire. Interestingly the Japs who performed biological weapons tests during WW2, in official documents referred to their Chinese prisoner subjects (of truly horrible experiments) as "logs".
Throughout history, and most disturbingly modern history, we humans have shown a propensity to freely maltreat other humans by the simple mental trick of defining them as non-human. If we can mentally segregate a group, by even the most superficial definition, then they can easily become logs for the ovens. If you need an example, look at modern Central European Moslems and Christians. To US (a tip of the hat to my cousin Ed) they all look the same, but they can tell the difference and that's all that matters to start the murder.
We are in for a bumpy ride. More bad economic news today as the World Bank reports a prediction of further global economic contraction, possibly worse than 2008 (see the below) http://abcnews.go.com/Business.....5383869#.TxcULPnCaSo
If you want a visit from the ghost of Christmas Future, look to Greece. They are on the crest of this crashing wave. Pharmaceuticals, from high end drugs to treat MS and cancer, to simple asthma inhalers and aspirin are not available to the drug stores, much less the sick (be advised, there is a shortage of anesthesia drugs in our own hospitals). Children are being abandoned in the street. And the Greek insanity deepens. A Greek government that cannot meet commitments to existing disabled persons has just redefined "disabled" to include pedophiles, kleptomaniacs, pyromaniacs, and exhibitionists to name a few. This can only increase the demand on a shrinking pool of Euros available to this government safety net, and hasten the collapse.
The worse things get the easier it will be to shove the "log" down the street onto the train bound for the ovens.
God help us all when that dog of war is set loose.
