Parents need to be involved in their childs ACADEMICS. Teachers are responsible for ACADEMICS. Peer leaders trained by PP is not acedemics, it's educating moral behavior.
Parents are responsible for their child's education, schools are tools to be used and managed by the parents in the development of their child academically.
TRUE.....no prayer in school AND no planned parenthood......
we already pay for biology/health/PE classes and the teachers for them.....it's just that simple....PP is a catechism for a podium puck----REMOVE IT....

you know what's better than PP in the schools as the 'authority' on all things sexual, either effecting or being affected by 'sex action choices' is JERSEY FREAKIN' SHORE AND HOLLYWOOD.....what better teacher can America ask for????
PP is just another hand in the pipeline....they are not a god nor an authority.....we pay public teachers to teach such....do they need resources to speak for them???? really??? is that $$ well spent????

Academics in public schools are failing year in year out against developed nation. Maybe they should cut back on the "much more", like bringing in PP to talk to the students, and focus on academic things like math and science.

HARDLY!!! Like I said earlier......this was NOT a religious issue and NEVER WAS!! FACT!!! The PP Factoids are trying to spin it in that direction and the ignorant and uninformed are buying it!
Bottom line is that you believe the fictitious rhetorical FACTOIDS!

Re Brigid Rufo’s Jan. 16 letter, “Planned Parenthood has no place in education”: The issue of whether, and to what extent, sex education should be taught in schools by Planned Parenthood or any other organization is a subject worthy of debate. However, Ms. Rufo’s letter was more an attack on Planned Parenthood and its role in providing comprehensive health care to women than it was about Planned Parenthood’s role in providing sex education in schools. Ms. Rufo was most upset by the fact that Planned Parenthood provides legal abortion services to its clients. Ms. Rufo’s statement that Planned Parenthood was “under investigation for aiding and abetting sex trafficking of minors” is not true. Ms. Rufo was referring to events surrounding the publication of a video made by the pro-life group, Live Action. The questionable “fi ndings” of the non-law enforcement “sting,” which this group staged, do not represent the policies of Planned Parenthood but Ms. Rufo and Live Action would like us to believe otherwise. There have been no criminal charges or investigations resulting from these videos. Ms. Rufo also claimed that Planned Parenthood was being investigated “across the nation on numerous charges” but didn’t give any factual information about them; nor did she identify the government agencies supposedly investigating them. Finally, Ms. Rufo implied that government money is used to pay for abortions, when she probably knows that Planned Parenthood does not use federal funds to provide abortions. A July 2011 Gallup poll found that most Americans support a woman’s right to choose, with 77 percent of respondents agreeing that abortion should remain legal under some circumstances. Only 20 percent of respondents thought that it should not be legal under any circumstances. Fortunately, for most of us, the Planned Parenthood has not been “run out of the country,” as Ms. Rufo suggested it should be, and the legal right to obtain an abortion remains in place in spite of the opinions and actions of a minority of Americans.
Don't know where the hell you are getting your info from cause this was NEVER a religious issue! The shen parents, students and teachers thought PP crossed the line regarding sex ed....from an educational point of view...........simple as that!!
It appears that you are disconnected from the folks who live in and work in the district to obtain the FACTS! These are clearly just your 'opinions'....which you are entitled to.
You are entitled to your opinion but you can't spin the truth/facts!!
Wrong, bumble! You have to get off this board sometimes to gather some real facts.
Here's a few factoids fer ya: 1. No Shen teachers complained about PP instructors! And they wee in the classrooms with them! 2. Only parents from the Round Lake "church" (i.e. religious!) complained. 3. Only students of those complaining parents emailed the BOE, coincidentally with the exact same complaintsa as their parents.
All their complaints were couched in their extreme "religious" position that 1. abstinence only sex ed should be taught and 2. the only instuctors they complained about were PP instructors EVEN tho they taught the exact same material as Shen instructors with Shen instructors in the classroom!
Their goal was to get PP booted. And they succeeded by bullying the superintendent.
This was a well run political hit on Planned Parenthood!

bumble thru, (Is your name indicative how you get thru life?)
This attack certainly does have religious components. To say it doesn't is to show you don't know what's happened here. This "church" group (i.e. religious!) objects to PP solely, only, 100% because they provide abortions. Period. that's it. Those other arguments were political cover because to object to PP only because they provide abortions wouldn't have gotten them anywhere. They have said Shen's sex ed classes are "dangerous" to our children because of all the factual sexual info provided, an extreme religious position. They also came out and said they want Shen to teach an abstinence only program, another extreme religious position.
To you, and the others who previously posted that PP instructors teach what they want to, PP only teaches what the state Dept of Ed curriculum. PP does not teach anything they want to. They teach the approved state curriculum while other trained, certified Shen teachers are in the classroom. NONE of those Shen teachers complained about PP's instructors. NONE!
This attack has been religious as well as political. To say it doesn't have religious aspects is to demonstrate that your head is stuck somewhere besides the sand
It is misconceptions about PP like above that feeds those religious extremists' hatred, attack on PP. They don't want to listen to facts. They live on spins, exaggerations and outright lies like this. One of the church group spoke at the BOE meeting last week saying that PP said condoms were 98% effective and that that is wrong. She said "condoms were only 80% effective"! And it's people like this who want the responsibility to teach sex ed, to anyone?
Another thing she said was that "condoms were only 80% effective and women were fertile 20% of the month. You do the math." ??? Huh? WTF is this? What does one have to do with the other, even tho both numbers are wrong.
It's these kinds of backwards, neanderthal, pitchfork and fire beliefs that caused the state to mandate sex ed in our schools.
PP is just another hand in the pipeline....they are not a god nor an authority.....we pay public teachers to teach such....do they need resources to speak for them???? really??? is that $$ well spent????
Schools frequently use experts on subjects to come in and help with classes. By the by Mr. Uniformed, PP is not paid for helping teach these classes.
