See, there you go again...You have it backwards...Public Schools TAKE by FORCE to fund it. My solution is a solution of CHOICE. A CHOICE on whether to fund public school in your community or not to fund it. The lefties were in LOVE with the public option for health insurance. Why not make public schools optional, and make funding it optional? I though competition was good? I guess not when indocrinating our children.
In Cicero's VOUCHER WORLD, rich kids will have excellent Private education, while middle class and poor kids suffer in underfunded public schools. Cicero's Voucher Plan will TAKE BY FORCE funds collected for the public education of all kids to pay for private education of a few.

That sounds like the current system. The rich kids, like the Obama's send their kids to private school, while the plebs send their kids to the Washington DC public schools.
Box would like to see the Albany and Schenectady City residents only have one affordable option, and that is their failing schools and hope for better results. While the leaders of these cities live outside the district, and either send their kids to suburban schools or private schools.
School's dont need SEX education.....they need biology and health class.....SEX is an EFFECT of what happens biologically.....fertilization is an effect of SEX.....STD's are an effect of SEX.....
PP has no business teaching.....we all pay teachers to teach biology(basic and higher) and health class......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
senders, you're right. Our schools don't need sex ed. Our children do. Parents, no matter how well intentioned, cannot keep up with what is new, what is happening with our kids like Planned Parenthood does. They "help" teach our youth sex ed topics in 46 different school districts in New York State. What parent could possibly stay as informed as they are? None. People's hatred of PP solely because they provide a certain "legal" health service to women is like throwing the baby out with the bath water. This Catholic church group does not object to what the Shen instructors were teaching yet, the PP intructors taught the exact same information. So, what are they really objecting to?
This is 100% a political hit job against PP. It is no different than the attacks against PP that the right wing has been engaged in across the country. For Catholics to object to anyone re: sex values is too hypocritical to even mention. Removing PP by the school superintendent was a serious mistake, a knee jerk reaction to the high pitched whining of an extremely small group of religious extremists. How extreme? The leader of this group, Maureen Shilfer, actually said that Shen's sex ed classes were "dangerous" to our children! Dangerous? Again, if it's the subject matter that irritates her so much, why didn't she whine about that? PP has nothing to do with the curriculum, it is designed by the state dept of education. Hopefully, the superintendent will come to his senses and invite PP back. The sexual education, health and even lives of our children may depend upon it.

You can take this and justify the state educating ALL personal behavior and morals, and eliminate ALL parental influence on their child.
The fact you say "our children" is enough to scare the sh*t out of me. Take care of your own children...State educators have this feeling that they have a right to "our" children’s minds, and can impress the state's values upon them.
School needs to stick to reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Posted once again because some people needs more than once!
~ "Parents are the primary educators of Sex Ed for their children." ~ "No child at Shen is required to attend Sex Ed Classes... any parent can opt out of the course." ~ "The course has been successfully taught at Shen for over 20 years"
This is one more case of a few bigots forcing their agenda on the rest of society.

Once again, just a reminder, only the state can use "force". It is the state school that is "forcing" their agenda on sexual behavior. The school is "forcing" residents to pay but not have a say. But, that's how the statist likes it. Give me your money and shut your mouth. If you oppose the state curriculum, you must be a bigot and in need of collectivist re-education.
Again, it was a HUGE problem when schools wanted to teach creationism as an elective, and the kids could "opt out". I guess that's not a two way street.
It seems the statist has a great desire to impose their views on sex and secularism.
Opting out is a reasonable option for the statist when justifying their moral crusade.

Opting out is a clever way to say your are "forced" otherwise. You added nothing new to the debate...But...That's nothing new either.
Teaching morals is acceptable to the liberal statist when it is moral teachings they approve of. So much for the, "you can't legislate morals" that libs love to throw around.

"Teaching Morals"? See #1 Below. ""forced" otherwise"? See #2 Below.

Schools teach about the law. Doesn't that impact students' "personal behavior"? They teach about wars and politics. More "personal behavior" impact. Our schools insist student athletes sign a Code of Conduct in order to enjoy the priveledge of playing on a school team. I'm pretty certain that would influence student athletes' "personal behavior". Our schools help influence personal behavior by just about everything they do. To pretend they don't is kinda disingenous, ya think?
The "personal influence" that Shen's superintendent "should" have stood up against was ridiculous demands to remove trained, experienced instructors in sex ed classes simply to abide by these Catholics' "obvious" political agenda.
CICERO, no one said ANYTHING about "eliminating ALL "parental influence". Planned Parenthood states on their website:
Quoted Text
"Research shows that teens are more sexually active than parents think. By the time they’re 19, seven out of 10 teens have had sex. Two thousand teens get pregnant in the U.S. every day. And teens have very high rates of sexually transmitted infections.
Parents really can make a difference. We can talk with our kids, build strong relationships with them, and set clear expectations and boundaries for them. These are proven ways we can help prevent teen pregnancy, reduce our teens’ chances of getting sexually transmitted infections, and help ensure that they lead healthy and rewarding lives. So let’s get talking.
Teens are less likely to take risks if they have good relationships with their parents."
Just like we discuss with our children their math lessons and science lessons and history lessons we definitely should engage our children about their sex ed lessons. These classes are the "law" because too many parents haven't been talking to their kids about sex or because they weren't effective enough. If parents being solely responsible for their kids' sexual education was effective we wouldn't be seeing the STDs among kids. We wouldn't see any teen pregnancies. It is BECUASE of PP that this area's teen pregnancies are about half that of the rest of the state. Hey, you might learn something if you actually discussed these classes with your children. The fact is there are a lot of kids who want more sex ed info because it is their parents who insist on NOT discussing all aspects of their childrens sexuality. Sad indeed.

That's pretty sad CICERO that you're so easily scared by an honest, reality based discussion. Schools stick to teaching what our children need to know. You, as a parent are 100% responsible for the religious education of your children. And that is how the law states it should be. That church group would raise holy hail if the state tried to tell their church how they should conduct their teachings. I just wish these religious groups would keep their religious beliefs OUT of my kids' schools, also as the law states it should be.
FYI ~ The students cannot opt out of these sex ed classes. Again, because parents talking to their kids has not been enough. They can only opt out of the HIV portion of the classes. And that is a leftover political issue itself. When these classes were made law, there was a lot of urban legend type beliefs, and hysterical fear, about how HIV is transmitted so, the legislators took the chicken way out and gave parents an opt out clause. This antiquated loophole should be closed. Please try to keep up with the facts.

Of course it's forced. That's what "mandatory" means. That's how important this class is to our children, regardless what their parents' religious beliefs are. Are you also whining that the state mandates that your children be taught math, science, geology, music, health, gym? Why not? Because you know you couldn't come close to being able to teach those subjects well enough.Same with sex ed. They're not teaching morals. I know of some kids who actualy thought they couldn't get an STD if they took a shower every day. I wonder what their parents were talking to them about re: STDs.
By the by, "creationism" has no place being taught in our schools. It is a religious belief and belongs taught in the churches, if they insist on misinforming people. We don't want our children to be taught that the earth is only 4,000 years old. Science proves that is incorrect. I can't imagine what kind of scientists we would produce in this country if such an idiotic idea were taught as if it is fact.
