They will weep for Big Govt to step in and protect them from Fracking... .

I know many upstate New Yorkers are grateful for big brother at the power authority overseeing the Gilboa Dam.  Thank goodness we had bureaucrats making decisions regulating the water levels in the Gilboa Dam before the tropical storm hit.  They had to keep the reservoirs full in case NYC lost power, so they could use the power generated by the dam to power NYC.  If a private power company controlled the dam, they may have lowered to reservoir levels to protect the  Schoharie Valley in fear of having to pay out huge law suits.  What's the State of NY care if they get sued, the people suing will just have to pay taxes to the state to cover the monetary settlement for losses.

Great Job Big Brother Government.  I don't know where we'd be without your infinite wisdom.  Filled with the best and the brightest...Just take a trip down to the state buildings and see the genius at work.

There was also a question about the position of the flood gates at the locks not being raised to allow the water to flow faster to prevent some of the flooding.

Yea, and Dale Earnhardt wouldn't wear a HONS devise that would have saved his life.
You can't fix stupid.

I take care of folks that wore their seatbelts and yet remain in w/c with tube feedings and can't move on their own, never to do laundry/wash dishes/ pump gas/ feed themselves/ urinate or defacate
on their own control etc etc....

I'm not saying they dont help but they are NOT the end all.....

depending on one's definition of life of course.....

how would Dale have lived in a pimped up wheelchair while wetting his pants and unable to eat steak????

Cicero's making my case.  Since the thread subject is about FRACKING... When FrackQuakes hit the Gilboa dam,
there will be no time for evacuation... the damn will be fine one minute destroyed the next.

Earnhards body was fine... except that his brain was separated from his brain stem.  A HANS would have likely
prevented that injury.  He could have walked away from that wreck.

Ah yes... The free market.  You are free to die if you want to work here.

In your sick mind you believe businesses have something to gain from not providing a safe work environment for their employers when in fact it is the complete opposite.

I've worked for companies who would only follow safety guidelines under threat of an OSHA violation and fine.

~ "In your sick mind you believe businesses have something to gain from not providing a safe work environment..."
You must be talking about the Massey Energy Corporation where their mine in  Upper Big Branch killed 29 miners.

Massey consistently ignored OSHA violations, and even had a paid informant who would tip off the managers at the
Upper Big Branch Mine when OSHA inspections were scheduled.

The mine could have worked safely, but opted to cut corners and consistently violated safety regulations, at the cost
of the lives of 29 of their employees.  They COULD HAVE PROVIDED A SAFE WORK ENVIRONMENT, BUT THEY DIDN'T.

Now Massey will pay nearly $210 million as a result of a CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIN settlement arising from the worst
U.S. coal mining disaster in decades.
The agreement includes more than $46 million in criminal restitution to the miners' families and $35 million in
penalties for all Massey violations, including $11 million for Upper Big Branch. Another $128 million will fund
cutting-edge mine safety upgrades.

This settlement ends the criminal prosecution of  Alpha Natural Resources.  Alpha acquired Massey Energy after
the explosion at Upper Big Branch.
As part of the agreement, Alpha Natural Resources will not be charged with crimes but individuals still could face
criminal prosecution.
(I certainly hope so)

So Henry... Tell me again... What was it?  Oh Yea:

~ "In your sick mind you believe businesses have something to gain from not providing a safe work environment..."
Massey Energy Corporation gained for years and would still be if they hadn't killed 29 men.
With out OSHA, Massey would have dragged the bodies of those men out of the mine, and continued as if
nothing had happened.  Free Markets, Remember?

Mining is one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet, sh*t happens and people f*ck up, the government can not fix that. Also anyone who ever seen OSHA's regulations understand why our jobs are being shipped overseas, they make simple jobs almost impossible and only public paid companies can afford such prices after they meet their regulations. Many private contractors who were barely getting by lost their jobs because they couldn't afford to meet OSHA's standards, OSHA is nothing more than a racket for those on the inside.

Make sure you post your OSHA log or you will be fined.  Make sure you calculate your DART rate.  Make sure it's signed by your senior officer tocomply with Sarbanes Oxley.  And the 99% wonder why nobody's hiring and all our jobs are going over seas.

We live on a very volitile planet! There are earthquakes, volcanos, hurricanes, flooding, tornados, tsunamis...etc.... We as little humans still try to capture the power of the planet and always will and folks will always die. It is just the way it is!!! It's referred to as survival and risk and innovation. We would still be rubbing two sticks together if it weren't true. We don't know if something will benefit mankind in the long run unless we try........... like the folks who came before us did.
