ROTTERDAM
Fire commissioner revote planned
BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.

Voters in the Carman Fire District will head back to the polls next month because results in a hotly contested race for commissioner were determined to be tainted.
Commissioner Ken Possen said three affidavit ballots were opened and included in the results before the voters could be verified as registered in the district. All three were later found to be unregistered in the district, meaning they may have tipped the race for the fi veyear commission seat, which was unofficially won by a single vote last week.
“The envelopes [with the affi - davit votes] shouldn’t have been opened and they were,” Possen said Monday. He said the revote in January will not include a resolution altering the district’s fi refi ghter pension plan or another commissioner vote, as “There was no question on the other issues.”
Initial results had former commissioner Gary Bonk wining the election by a single vote. He was running against Paul Angelone and Scott Baldwin.
In contrast, Carman voters soundly approved the pension changes 80-59, meaning the three questionable ballots wouldn’t have changed the balance. The results for a four-year commission seat will also be accepted, as former Carman Chief David Galka was running unopposed.
But some in the district believe the tainted results in one area should mean a revote on the whole ballot. Dave Domanico, a fi refi ghter with the district, said, “They should do the whole thing over again.” .................>>>>.............................>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01203&AppName=1

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
