I respect your right to your opinion...I just don't necessarily agree, sorry. I think the focus needs to be on the culprit and not the victim....I do believe  in the need for toughening, but that does not excuse dealing with the source of the problem. They need attitude changes and to understand their behavior is unacceptable.

bullying only happens when one has been brainwashed to the political correctness extreme thought that "the world is made for me and will change for me"....once a person accepts that they lose the
rampart of "I dont give a rats as$ what you think/say to me because you ARE not more equal/special than me"

HOWEVER,,,,dont invade the physical space.....THAT is where the judge lies in wait.....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

So I wil repeat my earlier point...what I am reading is that we empower the victims and ignore correcting the bully!  Doing that doesn't change the bad behavior, it just moves it to another target. Yes, victims need to be taught or understand to stand up, becuase bullies will back off and move on...it's very important that that happen.  But it's equally important to correct the mental failings of those that bully. Don't discoutn that bullies usually don't act alone, and are empowered by their bully friends who when together try to outdo each other....that is exteremely imposing and difficult on those that expereince the result.

How do you suggest "correcting" the bully - psychotherapy, punishment - re-education?  I believe "correcting" the bullies actions happen after the fact - when it's too late.  And to be honest, the modern day bully isn't a bully in the traditional sense.  I mean, come on, Patches says the words people post on an internet forum is a form of bullying.  People even think a mean boss is a bully.  People are way too thin skinned nowadays.

IMO based on my experience, the physically tough bully usually came from a broken home, and when one person finally stood up to the bully it damaged the bully's reputation, which had the effect of giving other kids the confidence to stand up to the bully.  Then the bully didn't bully because he wasn't sure if somebody else was going to stand up to him and harm his reputation more.  Then the bully relied on talking tough instead of the physical bullying.

True story - in junior high, there was a bully that everybody in school was scared of.  One day he had gotten into an argument in the hallway with a girl.  It turned into a screaming match and he began threatening her.  The kids began gathering around, cheering and egging it on.  And guess what?  The girl reached back and hauled off a closed fist punch right across his jaw.  He stumbled back and looked up in embarrassment knowing that everybody saw him get punched by a girl.  After that, that bully lost his power to bully because he knew his reputation was destroyed.  That was a long time ago, but I still remember their names, and can remember how quickly his status changed from bully to wimp, and was no longer able to intimidate on reputation alone.  That girl probably didn't even realize how that one event changed minds and helped many kids get over their anxiety and fear of being bullied.

Yes, kids make fun of each other....but adults???? that's another story...used to call it ?making fun of"....now it's gone over the top

and the victims have committed suicde,....watch TV when they have reports on bullying....it will make you sick....especially when a

parent tries to protect their child from bullying....FROM THE TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS, AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION....it's not just

the children bullying each other....it's adults bullying children....They get away with it because of their authority and the Administration

shoves it under the rug....Been there.....and no one listened....When a teacher can get away with talking to their students and using

words like, RETARD, IDIOT, FAILURE, ETC.,  what do you think that is....When a parent encourages  a fight and stands and watches

to make sure that the bully  gives the best punches to win....

BT  I disagree with your thinking....and respect it.....but don't underplay the part of the bully.....they come in all shapes, forms,

sizes, genders, ages, etc.,...

The reason Joe Bxr or the other posters are not bullies is that they has NO POWER UNLIKE RON SEVERSEN WHO IS A TIED IN MEMBER OF THE STATE, COUNTY AND TOWN REGIME WITH DIRECT TIES TO THE TAXING AUTHORITIES, CODE AUTHORITIES AND THE POLICING AUTHORITIES. RON SEVERSEN CAN MAKE A PERSON'S LIFE MISERABLE WITH A FEW PHONE CALLS AND REGULARLY MAKES VEILED THREATS  CALLING FOR POLITICAL DISSENTERS AND OPPONENTS TO BE IMPRISONED AND DRIVEN OUT OF TOWN. NOW THAT IS AN OPPRESSOR AND A TYRANT WHO HAS POWER OVER PEOPLE AND LIKES TO COME HERE TO FLAUNT IT. THAT IS A BULLY! RON SEVERSEN HAS EVEN BRAGGED ON THIS FORUM ABOUT HIM MAKING "A FEW WELL PLACED PHONE CALLS" TO THREATEN A LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSMAN BECAUSE HE HAD A SIGN UP FOR A NON-DEMOCRAP NON-INCUMBENT> NOW THAT IS A BULLY.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Mean and hurtful words and interpreting threatening comments and actions are subjective. What is mean and threatening to one young person may not be to another. That is where the 1st amendment draws the line. Teasing, as it use to be called, has always been a part of life....agree or not! The only difference today is that there are more venues available to spew their venom. It went from the play ground to Facebook, Twitter, Texting, Blogs, email etc.....

As far as it being a learned behavior from the parents is not always the case. I've talked to great parents of 'teasers' and they are appalled at such behavior.

My point again is that people need to be comfortable in their own skin and not base their value or worth on what others say.

If you ask "who is teaching the bullies" then you must ask 'who is teaching the victims'.  Teaching kids to sit back and wait for bullies to change their behavior because they aren't taught to cope with bullying is a recipe for disaster.  Parents need to develop their child’s self esteem and teach them that it is alright to stand up for themselves, and that they don't have to wait for the 'authorities' to re-educate a generation of children in hopes of eliminating bullies.  That is unrealistic.

My advice is this.  Don't allow your children develop their self esteems and self worth based on television shows and 'reality' TV values.  Kids need to understand that TV is NOT REALITY!!!  In my experience, adolescent values are determined by pop culture and the entertainment industry.  Pop culture determines who and what is 'cool' and what isn't cool.  And what is ‘cool’ is determined by how you look, what you wear, the music you listen to, and the material possessions you have.  If you allow your children to build their self esteem on these values, they are susceptible to bullying and teasing if they don't fit the current pop culture trend.

The new REGIME will be full of bullies....will the citizens of Rotterdam stand up to them????   or will they sit in the audience and be

quiet...Seems like that is the norm from what i hear....

So, bulling is a fact and way of life these days....all I am saying is that everyone has to participate in making a better place...

and certainly we can start here....oh well, in my dreams.....and reality...   NOT

In all do respect here patchy.....are you serious?
Do you seriously believe that an anonymous 'whatever' is bullying another anonymous 'whatever'? REALLY?
Looks like  you aren't minding it cause you certainly continue to contribute to the 'back and forth'.
NEWS FLASH!!.....dvor has the freedom and right under 'free speech' to write or blog just as everyone else.
Difference here is that those of us who choose to not partake........block the troll through our message center.
We would advise you to do the same so you won't feel like a 'victim' any longer.....

Like I said................there would be no perpetrators if there were no willing victims!

just sayin

Just blame the victim is what you are saying!

If he didn't have all that money in his wallet, the murder wouldn't have killed him to take it... blame the victim.
If she didn't dress like that, she wouldn't have been raped... blame the victim.
The old lady didn't want her purse stolen, she should have left it at home... blame the victim.
