NY state workers to move from Stuyvesant to Albany

The state has told 725 workers to pack up and move from a commercial building in Stuyvesant Plaza    to a state-owned building in downtown Albany.
The move marks the second major shift of state workers from privately held buildings to state-owned facilities, both revealed this month.
It's part of a state campaign to save money ($9 million over the next 18 months, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says), but it's causing major trouble for commercial real estate firms. The state leases 18 percent of the privately held office space in Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and Saratoga combined, according to state data and brokerage firm CB Richard Ellis/Albany.
This week, the state Division of Criminal Justice Services told employees of the coming move out of the Executive Office Park tower in Stuyvesant Plaza.
Workers will leave for the state's Alfred E. Smith Building after June 2012, when a lease for more than 130,000 square feet in Stuyvesant Plaza expires.
