This thread, I set up as a beginning of a topic, due to going off topic in 'SU Asst Coach accused', http://www.rotterdamny.net/v-post/b-general3/m-1321631039/q-17/ I didn’t want to see that go any further off the topic, so I set this up. Here is the beginning of the conversation, taken from the above link.
Sorry to tell you, DVOR, but in the end, Catholics will be judged, just like the rest of the world. There will be, in the end times, a false religion, and I believe that we have already began seeing this religion, and it is the Catholic Church.
I am NOT sorry to tell you this -- but I have always and will always believe that the Catholic Church is NOT a false religion -- and no one ever said that Catholics will not be judged. But I do believe that The Way, The Truth and The Light are found only in Jesus Christ who established and still leads the Catholic Church through the Pope and its Bishops. The most effective way to have a FULL relationship with Jesus is to be born again in the waters of Baptism in the Catholic Church and experiencing Jesus in His Sacraments administered by His Church.
All of the other denominations and religions are following after false gods.
This is why not all Christian churches, but definitely all of the Catholic Churches make offerings to his mother, Mary, in a sense, a false idol. Like I said, it is not totally imperfect, nor is it totally perfect. Neither is ANY church out there, but the Catholic Church as it is appears to be at the moment seems to be heading down the wrong road.
As proof of this, I show you the names of each and every church in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany located in Schenectady County, not ONE of which refers to Jesus Christ, however, 9 of which refer to saints who are not the Lord, and the other 5 are all not celebrating the Lord in their name, but the vessel through which he came to Earth through. Also, I have had several occasions where I have went to specific services in Catholic churches, each of which have offered a blessing to the "blessed mother," leaving an offering at the feet of this idol inside their house of worship.
First, the 5 that celebrate his earthly mother more than the Lord himself. Our Lady of Fatima Church Immaculate Conception Church Our Lady of Fatima Church Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Immaculate Conception Church, Schenectady (Our Lady of the Assumption, Schenectady) see Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish, Schenectady Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish
St. Adalbert's Church St. Anthony's Church St. Gabriel the Archangel Church St. Helen's Church St. John the Evangelist Church St. Joseph's Church Mission: St. Margaret of Cortona (Part of St. Joseph’s) St. Luke's Church St. Paul the Apostle's Church St. Joseph's Church
What you're not "getting" in your assessment above, is the Lord saying that you honor Him, when you honor His Mother.
It was so important to Him, it was the fifth commandment he gave to Moses, "Honor thy Father and thy Mother".
So, I have to defend the naming of the Schenectady Parishes, although I may or may not agree with all of them.
As for which church is THE Church, the Catholic Church is the ONLY church founded by God, administered by successors to Peter. (And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. )
Further, When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, 'Woman, behold, your son!'. Then he said to the disciple, 'Behold, your mother!’" (Jn 19:26-27).
Clearly, Mother Mary played a significant roll in Christ's life - and death, therefore I believe it's only fitting that her name be honored in Catholic Churches.
The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness. John Kenneth Galbraith
The premise of your argument is absolutely ludicrous.
Naming a church in honor of a Saint or the Blessed Mother does NOT mean that the congregation is "offering up" something to the saint or the Blessed Mother instead of to Jesus.
By your standard most protestant churches are making offerings to places or things and worshiping something other than Jesus Christ --
Is the Northway Church offerig something up to a superhiwghway instead of to Jesus Christ?
What about "The Bridge Christian Church" ? "Abounding Grace" ? Rotterdam Methodist ? Carmen Methodist ? Sonrise Bible ? Bethel Gospel ? First Reformed ? Restoration House ? Maranatha Ministries?
Are they worshiping something or someplace or someone other than Jesus Christ ?

Examples of HONOR
When we got married, we promised to love and honor each other. We were honored with the queen's presence. She has been honored by several organizations for her charitable works. We need to find an appropriate way to honor these brave people. They have established a scholarship as a way to honor his memory. They are accused of failing to honor their debts. Cape Ann, an hour's drive north of Boston, is far sleepier than the famous elbow that bounds the southern reach of Massachusetts Bay. … There aren't any schmaltzy songs about my granite cape, which was named to honor a queen, thank you very much. —Anita Diamant, National Geographic Traveler, September 2005

We went to a catholic funeral service. NOT ONCE during this christian burial service was JESUS mentioned. They sang songs of worship to mary. And at one point the priest thanked a list of 'pope declared saints'. And believe it or not...he even quoted from STEVE JOBS (APPLE)!! yup he did!!! We left after 1 hour but heard it went on for yet another.
I was raised catholic and went to catholic school........so I am well aware!!!
....haven't practiced catholicism in decades. I'm a convert!

Actually, most of these that you are naming actually shows some charachteristic of the location of the church, i.e. Rotterdam, Carmen, or First shows that it was te first in the vacinity of that type. Others give an idea of something that they profess from the gospel inside their walls (supposedly to be carried out to the community by the people who attend there). Others, well, I don't know the full definition of where their name came from, but it doesn't proclaim raising someone to a new level (although I feel that personally some of those that run some of these churches raise themselves above all others).

You are obviously a liar -- because the Roman Catholic Mass of Christian Burial mentions Jesus in a number of places within the service. None of the songs to Mary within the Catholic tradition "worship" her -- nonor yes .. worship no. There is NO point in the official text of the Roman Catholic Mass of Christian Burial where a list of saints is thanked ---- there is a Litany of Saints which can be said or sung .. which asks various saints to PRAY FOR US. And it is highly unusual for a Funeral Mass to be longer than say 50 minutes --- even the Easter Vigil Mass (which is usually the longest of the year) can be completed within 2 hours -----------------------
so once again-- you are not only a liar but an Anti-Catholic Bigot.

Quite frankly -- you and your ilk have no desire to actually have an intelligent, rational debate --- it is clear that you and your minions are only interested in defaming the Roman Catholic Church and I will no longer respond to the BIGOTED and HATE-FILLED posts in this thread.
