Restaurants plan DNA-certified premium seafood
By ROD McGUIRK Associated Press
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) -- Restaurants around the world will soon use new DNA technology to assure patrons they are being served the genuine fish fillet or caviar they ordered, rather than inferior substitutes, an expert in genetic identification says.
In October, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration officially approved so-called DNA barcoding - a standardized fingerprint that can identify a species like a supermarket scanner reads a barcode - to prevent the mislabeling of both locally produced and imported seafood in the United States. ......................>>>>......................>>>>...................................

I get my perch straight from the bay. I get my oysters fresh every day from a local seafood house - they're harvested in the morning and served over an open pit at my home every night I want them for dinner. There's no mistaking any of the seafood we eat, I don't need DNA testing to tell me what I can visibly see, catch and eat. |

remove man from the land and sea and he ceases to be at the top of the food chain and ruler..... MT is right...gotta get it yourself and stop complaining when you pay others to do it for you......aaaahhhhh.....this is where the 'tax the sweat of man' comes into play the 'rich' remove themselves from the land/sea paying others to do it for them, yet they keep getting elected over and over and over and over again..... hence my postscript regarding laws and the paradox we create seafood prices go up because we have to pay folks to DO THE F'EN DNA TESTING....stupid stupid stupid...... |

That's the way to do it! Unfortunately not everyone is that lucky and they have to depend on what the stores, resturants tell them. It just seems so strange that we have to dna test our food to know that it 'is what it says it is'. |
