As someone who is descended from one of the pilgrims and participants in the first Thanksgiving --- this holiday is particularly meaningful for me. Thanksgiving should be celebrated in the way it was ORIGINALLY intended -- 1st .. to go to church and THANK GOD for the many blessings that God has given and 2nd ... to enjoy a feast with family and friends as a sign of our communion/community of faith.
The parades, football games, early showing of old Christmas movies and opening stores a day early for "black friday sales" are an abomination to the TRUE MEANING OF THANKSGIVING.
I encourage REAL Americans to join me in refusing to shop on Thanksgiving Day and - instead - spending the day attending church and enjoying time with family and friends AT HOME. |

A good way to celebrate Thanksgiving DVOR But The FIRST thanksgiving happened before the Pilgrims ever left England... and it happened in Texas.
Texans claim the first Thanksgiving in America actually took place in little San Elizario, a community near El Paso, in 1598 -- twenty-three years before the Pilgrims' festival. For several years they have staged a reenactment of the event that culminated in the Thanksgiving celebration: the arrival of Spanish explorer Juan de Onate on the banks of the Rio Grande. De Onate is said to have held a big Thanksgiving festival after leading hundreds of settlers on a grueling 350-mile long trek across the Mexican desert.
Then again, you may want to go to Virginia.. At the Berkeley Plantation on the James River they claim the first Thanksgiving in America was held there on December 4th, 1619....two years before the Pilgrims' festival....and every year since 1958 they have reenacted the event. In their view it's not the Mayflower we should remember, it's the Margaret, the little ship which brought 38 English settlers to the plantation in 1619. The story is that the settlers had been ordered by the London company that sponsored them to commemorate the ship's arrival with an annual day of Thanksgiving. Hardly anybody outside Virginia has ever heard of this Thanksgiving, but in 1963 President Kennedy officially recognized the plantation's claim. |

The tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving or Day of Thanks --- began in Europe LONG before any Europeans settled in the Americas --------------------------- since the early Middle Ages .. Christians in Europe celebrated a Day(s) of Prayer in the Spring Rogation days) --- asking for God's blessings and then during the Autumn celebrated a day of Thanksgiving -- thanking God for His beneficent blessings. That is where the Polish Harvest Festival/Dozynki comes from (Poles actually celebrated 3 days of Thanksgiving each year .. August 15, then the Dozynki and finally November 11 - the Feast of St. Martin of Tours). I am well aware of other European settlers - in what is now Texas and New Mexico and in Virginia - celebrating Days of Thanksgiving before the Pilgrims did. That is good thing -- but since my family can trace its lineage from a Pilgrim ---- that event has special significance for us. Regardless of your ancestry --- lets unite to celebrate the TRUE MEANING of Thanksgiving .. and stop the materialistic side shows. |

Thanks for the lecture and the demands, and telling what is OK for us to do with our families and what is not. That is why you could NEVER get elected, EVERRRRRR. You are a lecturing, know-it-all liberal who wants to flex your muscle and make demands of people, DemocrapicVoiceOfTreason. |

This CONSERVATIVE Democrat wants to put GOD back in Thanksgiving. Obviously, the one critic who complained about my original post is one of those "fake conservative" Republican/NNTPers who is actually atheist-materialist. |

DVOR..
Rename yourself ...reason is not in your character.... ....To expect anyone to take your statements with creditibility is not within reason...and if
God is to be chosen to be said into any of our statements, that is our right....and there is no need for any
offensive statements about someone's character or beliefs....if anyone deserves any criticism...it is you..
PEACE BE WITH YOU.....AND REMEMBER TO GIVE THANKS FOR THOSE WHO SERVE AND PROTECT US.

Lisa (Patches)must have read a history book --- thinks she is now an expert. I have studied American history and am quite aware of the situation between the settlers and the Native Americans. In Plymouth Colony, it was NOT quite as Lisa (Patches) tried to describe it. The pilgrims eeked out an existence and there was - at least for a few years - a peace - albeit uneasy at tims - between the settlers and the Native Americans. The pilgrims were only several dozen in number --- so to say that they "drove out" the Native Americans is laughable.
I have an ancestor who was among the pilgrims and whose descendents eventually helped establish Rhode Island -later still - settled in what is now Hoosick Falls-Petersburgh-Berlin area of New York. Traces of those ancestors remain in Bristol, Newport and Jamestown, Rhode Island. |

You know what.?????? DVOR you are a louse in the 3rd degree.....this will be the last time I will take your insults as someone else.....Take yourself and have a great Thanksgiving turkey dinner and pray that
God will forgive you for all your insults, faults, and thinking you are so superior.....you are not...
However, Thanksgiving started and who did is of no significance to me right now....you turn everything into
such a negative and untruth...how do you live with yourself????....people like you do not belong here but
on another place....with all the rest of your cohorts....evil and mean and not a compassionate bone in
your body.....Your have a personal agenda and it is to dehumanize anyone you can...well, sir,
you are doing it to the wrong person....I won't avoid you but stand up to your ignorance and hostility...
So be it.

You can tell that Kelly and the other Nayboobs are fake conservatives ---- because they are getting all upset about someone actually trying to put GOD back into Thanksgiving. Not only are they fake conservatives -- they really are ignorant about American history. |
