Photos: Rotterdam fir makes cut as state's Christmas tree Updated 08:44 a.m., Thursday, November 10, 2011
Finding the perfect New York state tree means sifting through hundreds of offers for tree donations and inspections of those with potential to decorate the Empire State Plaza as part of the holiday season, according to the state Office of General Services. A tree owned by Ellen and Tony Cervera, left, of Dahlia Street in Rotterdam made the cut this year as OGS workers, above, prepare the tree Wednesday for its trip to Albany. The conifer will be a star at the SEFCU Holiday Tree Lighting and Fireworks Festival, set for Sunday, Dec. 4. It will be decorated over 2,000 energy efficient lights for everyone to enjoy for the holiday season. Other activities include holiday music by the Troy Children's Chorus, arts and crafts, a holiday marketplace, and a fantastic fireworks display. The Empire State Plaza also hosts the 6th annual New York State Museum Chocolate Expo and the 2011 Great Train Extravaganza on the same day.
