Marching today with Veterans For Peace.  Hope you're there.

Oh, and he just emailed me to notify us that on his second tour of duty he fell in with a different unit and continues on in the reserves until this day.



Although he did say that he was in special ops under this command



He said he basically couldn't keep up with the tight training regimen for very long.

Last night I watched some of the Viet Nam program on the History Channel and then switched over to PBS and watched a Documentary about a Michigan Guard Unit that went to Afghanistan, and then started thinking about the draft......remember the draft?.......it was a rite of passage to turn 18, run down and register for the draft and get that draft card........meant you were legal to drink (the draft card was the best ID back in the day) and old enough to go to war..........ask someone about the draft today and they'll want a budweiser

Ya gotta love 'em! They have been raised differently. They believe in and expect entitlements. The same entitlements that have crushed Greece and the rest of the European countries.

From vietnam, to iraq, to afgan to libya....our wo/men in uniform have not been fighting for our freedoms. They were and are fighting political wars based on greed and power. God bless them one and all!

Entitlements ... like
~ My Oil Depletion Allowance... Oh yea, that entitlement is for corporations, not for American Citizens.  
~ Leasing my assets to my  corporation to reduce my tax burden...Oh yea, that entitlement is for corporations,
not for American Citizens.  
~ My Entitlement subsidy given to agri-business NOT to produce grains... Oh yea, that entitlement is for corporations,
not for American Citizens.  
~ How about my Entitlement "foreign tax credit that's given to Oil Companies??? Oh yea, that entitlement is for
corporations, not for American Citizens.  

When it comes to American citizens... the Right looks at "entitlements' as a bad thing, but they never met a Corporate
Entitlement yet they didn't love.  

Shout out to all Veterans today, have a wonderful and walk with pride!

I was at Wegmans a bit ago, and no fewer than 5 people stopped me, shook my hand and said thank you....I'm blown away.  Then the last one was the most special....as I started to turn an aisle, a lady with her 6 or 7 yr old son stopped.  She called her son by name and pointed to me. She said this gentleman is a Veteran. Would you like to say anything to him. The boy looked at me reached out to shake my hand and said Thank You.....I felt tears fill my eyes.  The most touching thing I've experienced since returning from Nam.  Back then there were no thank you's, just shouts of baby killer and being spit on.  You know what....maybe there is hope for the future of this country after all!

To be honest I dont really remember it quite that way -
Sure I remember the draft-
but I also remember the lottery ( # 5 ) oops
I remember my junior year of college  - my girlfriend ( eventually my wife )making sure I had enough units for my student deferment-

Yeah I'm a little older..............the lottery came after I was done serving..........
