The Board did the right thing firing Paterno and the college president -- a lot more heads will probably roll at Penn State before this is over.

For the record - I couldn't care less about Joe Paterno or Penn State's football team  .. or any colleges football team for that matter

I did visit Penn State very briefly about 15 years ago on my way to Altoona, Pennsylvania.  The purpose of my visit to the campus was to go to the Penn State's Dairy Departments ice cream shop ---  I enjoyed the visit very much and, despite the current problems at Penn State,  I would visit the shop again and recommend others visit as well.  BTW - my visit was the same weekend that President Bill Clinton visited Penn State to speak on the campus -- but I did not get to see him.

I imagine that there will be a full investigation of youth sports programs conducted by ALL colleges and universities across the country.

Paterno’s selfi shness led to Penn State scandal

Re Nov. 13 letter, “Too much emphasis on winning, at everything”: The Penn State saga is the result of one individual seeking immortality and is not a reflection on the many virtues of the university whose graduates have always come away with great academic and ethical achievement; the best this country can offer to those willing to work and learn!
Competitive athletics are not “sports” per se, as they endlessly teach: [They also involve] individual and team planning; excellence or perfection, which is necessary for every contest; competition against others for a prize; coping with pressure situations; how to succeed and how to fail; perseverance and the lesson that it isn’t how you start that matters, but how you fi nish.
That is, competitive athletics teach the principles of free enterprise and the work ethic for individual achievement, whereas socialism teaches redistribution of everything, even athletic talent whose purpose must be “fun” and “games.”
Planning and execution of a careful plan results in everyone else being left behind. Every contest is an examination, and preparation is everything. The contestant learns to “leave everything on the field.” Adequate planning applies to every game, profession or job. You must do your homework to achieve, and it isn’t always fun, but rewarding for the ballplayer, engineer, doctor, preacher or mom.
Penn State, be advised to remove the statue [of former coach Joe Paterno] in the middle of the night!

Family Member Accuses Sandusky of Abuse
Jerry Sandusky's attorney Joe Amendola says 1 of the 2 new sexual abuse allegations is from a family member of the former coach

By Lou Dubois |  Wednesday, Nov 23, 2011  |  Updated 11:02 PM EST

In the latest twist to the Jerry Sandusky alleged child sex scandal, it appears that one of the two new sexual abuse allegations we told you about yesterday was made by a family member of the former Penn State football coach.

Sandusky’s attorney Joe Amendola told Sara Ganim of The Patriot-News that the one allegation stems from difficulties within the child’s immediate family, a statement he later confirmed to NBC News. He said the assault is alleged to have occurred prior to Sandusky’s arrest earlier this month, but was not brought to the authorities attention until after the former Penn State coach was charged.

The Patriot-News is withholding the child’s relationship to Sandusky to shield the child’s identity.

To the Associated Press, Amendola characterized the second claim as an example of people trying to mimic other allegations...............................>>>>........................>>>>...................http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com.....ey-134408003.html?dr
