DelGallo dumped by voters, McGarry falls short on supervisor bid

#Rotterdam — Cheers began as Rotterdam Democrats saw election results appear and the cheers only got louder as the night proceeded.

#Rotterdam Democrats had a successful election night nabbing nearly all bids. Democrat Harry Buffardi held a more than 10 percent lead in his bid for supervisor over Republican and No New Tax Party founder Brian McGarry, with Buffardi garnering 3,694 votes, or 47.95 percent, and McGarry falling behind at 2,826 votes, or 36.68 percent, according to Schenectady County Board of Elections preliminary results. Incumbent Supervisor Frank DelGallo held less than half of McGarry’s votes, with DelGallo at 1,172 votes, or 15.21 percent, according to preliminary results.

#The only ballot line DelGallo held was his own party, Rotterdam First Party, which he created after losing support from town Democrats before the primary election. DelGallo did make a run for the Democrat line in the primary election running a write-in campaign and he also had his name on the ballot for the Conservative primary, but failed at both.

#DelGallo could not be reached for comment on the night of Tuesday, Nov. 8.

#Buffardi said he was happy with the results after a challenging race against two other candidates for town supervisor.

#“The vote gets split and you never know what is going to happen,” Buffardi said. “I’m happy that we can start doing the people’s business starting tomorrow.”

#Buffardi said he planned to call DelGallo on Wednesday, Nov. 9, to start the transition process and discuss with him what issues are facing the town moving forward.

#“[DelGallo] very clearly said he is interested in serving the Town of Rotterdam,” Buffardi said. “He is going out and I am coming in, if he really wants to serve the Town of Rotterdam I would hope he would sit down with me and start discussions on issues so that we can transition in.”

#McGarry said he would run a “clean, hard campaign,” which he believed he did and added he walked door to door every night for a couple of hours leading up to the election.

#“If the victory would have been decided by sheer shoe leather alone I would have beat both of them collectively,” McGarry said. “I am and was in tune with the voters, but I don’t think I was able to get that across effectively enough.”

#McGarry said he didn’t hold enough endorsements in the election, which he ran on two ballot lines opposed to Buffardi’s four ballot lines, but he also said he didn’t have as much money to spend on the campaign as the other candidates.

#Although DelGallo held just over 15 percent of the votes, McGarry said he didn’t believe DelGallo was a “spoiler” by siphoning votes away from him.

Dems secure Town Board seats
#The Rotterdam Democrats also secured their Town Board bids with incumbent Wayne Calder holding 3,651 votes, or 25.06 percent, and newcomer Mike Viscusi garnering slightly more at 3,852 votes, or 26.44 percent. Republican Christopher Tomaselli fell short at 3,247 votes, or 22.29 percent, and fellow GOP candidate Joseph Villano had 2,960 votes, or 20.32 percent. The Rotterdam First Party candidates held a paltry amount of votes, with William Cooke holding 541 votes, or 3.71 percent, and Delores Doriguzzi even less at 301 votes, or 2.07 percent.

#Buffardi announced he selected Calder to be Deputy Supervisor after election results were solidified.

#“[Calder] and I start tomorrow to start working some of these issues out and how we are going to handle that,” Buffardi said. “Certainly we want to develop teamwork and work together with other members of the council, but we also want to involve department heads, members of the community, all that good government stuff.”

#As far as Buffardi and fellow Democrats securing Town Board seats ending dysfunctional town board dynamics, which many have claimed to be apparent, Buffardi said he “hoped so.”

#“One of the reason I became interested in this race was because I was interested in some of the dynamics that were going on in that board,” Buffardi said. “Some of it was almost a comedy routine. Jim Longo would argue about the sweep. We must give DVR his due. Apparently many voters like being 10th highest in town taxes. DVR predicted a sweep of the County Leg and came one vote Jim Buhrmaster from it.  

Maybe it's cuz the public saw through ur bs lies... Did u cast a ballot for dad again this year?

         They should be lowering them, they are the ones that raised them to begin with . . . . DUH!

How about me Benny?  I called these results back in the summer.  In the famous words of Boomer  "Is Buchanan still running the party?"  YOU REPS ARE FOOLS.  WHY WEREN'T YOU OUT THERE SOLIDFYING THE RUN FOR HULL.  Dems have won everywhere.  Obama  next.

Longo should have won.  Why not?  He has done a very good job in the town. He hsould have won handily.  I believe his father was a Dem so he has solid values.  But that is neither here nor there.  Longo deserved the win.  And if I was a voting Rotterdamian, I too would have cast a ballot for Jim Longo. Point is Reps had a shot in Schenectady and blew it.  Let's hope that the absentee ballots will favor a REp for once--but that is not the history.  Not sure about Riggi.  Did he win?

Buchanan is probably wearing a kerchief and sunglasses with his dress today.   Come out Mary wherever you are.

Its time to move before the corruption starts to hit my wallet

There is something that just doesn't add up in rotterdam.
ARe rotterdamians that stupid? Within one year they voted against TWO taxing districts yet they vote in a tax and spend town board. The same ones that supported these taxing districts!

Rotterdam just doesn't make sense!

They are tricked by that conservative line, because as they vote down it, they don't know that they are voting for all liberal democraps. True story. I talked with several yesterday who argued with me and said they always vote the conservative line and that they are ALL republicans on it. They are incredulous when I point out that they are voting for democraps! Then they look sheepish and embarrassed for having been duped!
