Hopefully the feds won't try to manipulate the credit unions like they did/do the banks. If that happens, then it looks like the 'under the mattress bank' is our best shot!

The State's Division of Financial Institutions regulates state-chartered credit unions.
Federally-chartered credit unions are regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency
of the Federal Government.


Credit unions are subject to much of the same consumer regulations as other financial institutions. In some cases,
such as investments and mortgage business lending, credit unions must adhere to more strict regulations.

but credit unions are lead by their board and their investing is limited....unlike alot of the loosened banking regulations from the 80's
