I have always read -- that projected American casualties was 1,000,000 and even that number was thought to be a low ball estimate. |

I think the A-bomb saved both American and Japanese lives. If we were to lose a million and win, how many would the Japanese lose? |

That was the problem...The Japanese didn't care. The other thing that scared the crap out of us was the USSR. If we did use conventional forces to invade Japan, not only would it have massively extended the war, we surely would have had to transfer forces out of Europe. This would have left them defenseless and Stalin would have just walked right over them |

Today that would be considered as a homophobic slur! |

At the time there was little dissent about dropping the bomb on Japan. Decades later, historians questioned if the same decision would have been made to bomb Germany. Racism was strong in the USA then and the WW2 Propaganda depicting Asians as "godless heathens" helped stoke those feelings. There were doubts that the USA would have dropped the A bomb on a 'white Christian' Germany.
BTW, the firebombing of Tokyo took more Japanese lives than either of the A Bombs. |

That is b/c the country is filled with revisionist historians who are idiots. You know, the same ones who bang on Washington for owning slaves even though it was as common in that day for a man in his position to own slaves as to wear shoes. Always ignoring the fact that he was questioning it and -as the time neared when man began realizing the injustice of slavery, it was one of the questions of the time that took another 70 years to be settled. Obviously our warmth for 'white Christian' Germany didn't stop us from dropping millions of tons of of incendiaries on cities during daylight raids. This is why liberals are insane- they are always looking for evidence (and making it up if they need to) that the white man and America and the West is inherently evil and wrong and unjust in its treatment of any and all who are even remotely different. They exponge all the wrongs and sins of any group of people who have darker pigment in the skin, or who have a different value system- bending over backwards and kissing their as*es and pretending that are as perfect, kind, fair and just as the white, Western, Capitalist, Christian is unfair, imperfect, unjust and evil. We leveled both countries during WW II. And many would say we went far easier on Japan during the reconstruction period by allowing the Emperor to remain, rather than taking him out and hanging him. Revisionist, liberal, fool historians are wrong, and are basically as*holes. |

Interestingly - it took a liberal Democrat to get us OUT OF the Republican created Great Depression in the 1930's and the Republican caused World War II (the latter because of the 1920's GOP unilateral US disarmament platform and isolationism and keeping us out of the League of Nations).
So the next time you think about our nation remaining free from the totalitarian rule of Hitler and Hirohito -- THANK A DEMOCRAT. |

mister historian- your leaving out the part that Japan lives by a constitution that a half dozen Harvard law professors wrote for them - in 2 weeks.=- I believe they call it the peace constitution - covering everything from no army to no pubic hair. |

Did you not get enough oxygen at birth? Or does your only knowledge of history come from The History Channel? "Ice Road Truckers", is not history. The plane was named after the pilot's mother. |

Worse yet, even the children of Japan, were being taught to fight to the death, in the case of American invasion. Those bombs saved millions of lives, on both sides. There hasn't been a single one used, in an act of aggression, by any country ever since. I guess nobody ever even bothered to read the original News Corpse (Murdoch) NY Post article, because nowhere in it, is an "appology" mentioned. Obama bowed? It's social protocal in that country, not unlike shaking hands. I noticed that they never show any pictures of George W. Bush kissing one our supposed enemys on the lips. |
