He's already bowed to them as a sign of humility and submissiveness - an apology would be overkill.
A bow is a sign of humility and submissiveness??? Like this???Or like this???Or hold hands???Or a big smoochie kiss???YUCK! |

You're comparing a bow to what he, and half the world consider the successor of Peter, Christ's representative on Earth, to that of a nations leader?
Amazing.

~First of all, Christians make up only 1/3rd of the worlds religions... ~The pope is the head of a country... and as such is equal to any other leader... ~As a representative of the USA, our president should show equal respect for all religions... ~If this were a personal visit... the president could kiss the pope's a$$, I don't care. On a visit of state, he represents all Americans, not just the Catholics. Yea, I'm comparing the head of the Vatican to that of any national leader or leader of any religion. |

JEEZZZEEE MT. Buy a geography book! Do you live under a rock? Vatican!!! Look it up on google... Under 'countries of the world. The Vatican is right there in the list just below the USA, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, and just above Venezuela, Vietnam and the Virgin Islands. (whoever your geography teachers was in school... you should contact her/him and ask for a refund) |

The Vatican is a "city/state" - not a country. State of the City of the Vatican, is a landlocked sovereign city-state whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome, Italy.

I see nothing wrong with Hillary Clinton and President Obama reaching out to the Japanese in order to strengthen our bonds with them....apologizing may or may not be the proper thing to do but in this instance, from reading the cable -- The Japanese Leadership felt we need not do so at this time and declined our offer.....there is nothing to say on this further.
Except your wrong as usual. The worst President and Secretary of State in history. According to military experts over 100,000 US military would have been killed in a land invasion of Japan. |

The Vatican is recognized as an independent nation and is a non-member observer of the United Nations -- the Pope is considered a Head of State on equal par with the President of the United States and the Queen of Great Britain -- the Vatican even has a Secretary of State.
Any real Catholic would know that. |

I must agree -- we should NOT apologize to Japan for dropping the atomic bombs. Most people are not aware that Japan and Germany were each working towards atomic bombs during the war. There is some evidence that had we NOT dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 that Japan would have achieved a bomb in a matter of weeks or a few months. Granted - by August 1945 - Japan's air force and navy were seriously compromised ---- but don't think for a second that if the Japanese had developed the bomb they would have found a way to use it against our fighting men and women in the Pacific.

A few things. 1) Please remind yourselves that Japan, as well as Germany, were franticly trying to develop nuclear weapons themselves....We just happened to construct them before they did. 2) As the war turned against Japan, the government began preparing the general populance for defense against an impending invasion by American (and Allied) forces. While this isn't tacticly unusual, what really scared us about invading mainland using conventional forces was the Japanese mentality and that leads to... 3) If the war against Germany was hard, brutal and horrible, fighting against the Japanese was downright terrifying. We were shocked during the 'Island Hopping' campagin that Japanese forces WOULD RATHER COMMIT SUICIDE THAN SURRENDER...If this was their mentality fighting on small islands, you could imagine what it would have been like invading the mainland. Oh and there is this..... |
