Was reading the Friendly's thread and got to thinking about make your own sundae's at Stewarts. Now does anybody else remember the Stewart's Shop on Broadway that used to be in the building across the street from the firehouse? That's where Mom and Dad took us kids (very young) for our first make your owns. And how about the Central Market on Guilderland Ave. across from Draper Pharmacy? The house next to the Pharmacy was owned by my childhood best bud Fred's grandad. Used to have grape vines for winemaking and raised chickens too. We'd always make sure we were there when he was gonna kill a couple. |

Central Market there? Hmm. I grew up a couple blocks from there, I don't remember that one, but I think I'm a bit younger than you. Was that in the Library building? I do remember Loblaw's - and the Stewart's of which you speak .. Remember when they had the sundae's in baseball caps and we tried to collect them all? |

Central Market was already in Curry Road Plaza when I was little -- and I remember Zubal's Market on Curry Rd. Loblaw's had stores on Hamburg Street and Guilderland Ave .. and of course P&C over at 5 Corner's.
I do remember a Stewart's on Broadway just past McLane's and the tavern .. that closed a number of years ago.

Central was in the Napa Auto store building. I bet if you pulled the siding off you could still see the ads on the side of the building. When Curry Road Plaza was built they moved there. I think it was mid '70's when they changed the name to Price Chopper

I remember Central Market at the Curry Road Plaza - but for the life of me I can't picture it in the Napa building. I remember the change over to the PC name - and the commotion it started when the axe in the logo was going through a woman's head. The Libbers had a field day with that one. Then Grant's - then K-Mart. We used to play behind the market when I was a kid. |

HAHAHA!!! Guess I'm much older than you.....we used to play where they built the plaza.......used to be woods on Curry Rd. a dirt road led you to a huge field.......picnic tables......pavilions..........I think D2 owned it. When Grant's opened Mom went back to work.... she was there from the start til they closed. I was pretty sure about Guilderland Ave......confirmed it when I found an ad in one of the old Gazettes. Grants was on one end of Curry Road Plaza (the back strip) and Central Market on the other end .. with Schenectady Trust and a dry cleaners and .. I believe .. a beauty shop in the "side strip".
and, of course, there was Shoporama with Carl's and Grand Union and a bunch of other little stores "down east"on Altamont Ave
Carl's was fun with the various special events like "Circus Days" and various sidewalk sales .. and such. |

I was actually very thin as a child and young adult -- and if you actually bothered to get to know me .. you'd know the reason why I gained a lot of weight 15 years ago .. and it wasn't due to the amount of food that I eat (which is exactly not very much). Instead, you post your insults and personal attacks like a stupid junior high student. Grow up and act like an adult. |
