ok we're getting closer........and where are these buildings........and just who exactly is the town historian...........and if I wished to view these documents where and when can this be done.......and when will they be available on-line, and why aren't they already?

They will be available online -- when the town allocates money to scan every one of the documents and make them available online. There is no place to view the documents and artifacts. The Town Historian has only $500 a year allocated --- which wouldn't even get you the equipment to do the job. I have offered to donate a computer, desk and some other furnishings for a "space" in either the town hall or senior center to properly house the collection and allow it to be viewed by the public. I am even willing to obtain (at my own cost) some other equipment to scan and digitize the collection. So far, I have NOT heard anything from the Town Supervisor or Deputy Supervisor about my request .. and this is going on 10 months.

Not a bad idea - but you would still need the equipment to do the scanning . We already have student volunteers from Mohonasen involved in the work of the Parks and Recreation Commission --- still reaching out to Schalmont to respond.
With the town's bicentennial only 8 years away -- there is a real need for a Rotterdam Historical Commission to bring resident volunteers together to accomplish number of goals that deal with our town's history and historical records/artifacts.
--- i should mention that digitizing ALL of the towns record ... those that are historical and those in the town clerk's office --- has been a project that has been "put on hold" for years. The next Town Clerk (whomever that will be) and the Town Historian will have to work together on accomplishing this project.

I have seen some events there that it is quite packed. Hundreds of people, with the parking lots packed. I don't know how often it is that full, but it does bring people in.
I would think that anyone who owns a computer made within the past few years, along with a printer from the same time period would be able to do this with no problem, and any one of the students in either one of the high schools in town could probably do a rather quick job on it.
It is funny....events are cheap and very well attended.......where the mabee farm is, I dont remember ever flooding until recent...don't expect to see anything like that the rest of my lifetime. Why such negativity ? Such slander and childish games.

Like I said -- it is worth looking into. It would be better to do it "in house" with volunteers from the community rather than hire an outside firm (which has been suggested). I am not sure it would be a "quick job" as there are many years of documents to scan - but we have to start sometime.
One of the issues that has to be addressed in sorting through all of the town records (paper records) in the Town Clerk's Office --- to determine which must still be retained in the Town Clerk's Office and which are no longer legally required to be held in the Town Clerk's Office but are historical. My understanding is that town records were just kept over the years -- never sorted -- and from time to time (in the past) got "chucked out" when the storage space was needed for more recent records. This sorting will be a big project.
Another issue is actually collecting additional artifacts - each past town historian had his/her own area of interest or study within the town (thus there may be a lot about Rotterdam Junction history and very little about other neighborhoods in the town) .. and there was no uniform policy for retaining the artifacts collected by past town historians (thus there are huge gaps in Rotterdam's 300+ year history that are not represented in our collection). So the acquisition of artifacts and broadening the scope of artifacts collected will be a major goal.
