Lets stop cherry picking snippets and push for a flat/fair tax with no loopholes that way everyone pays their fair share of the taxes. Obama doesn't want to do that because it will offend many of his campaign supporters.

I agree 100%.  A fair tax where everyone pays their fair share of taxes.  A flat tax is one proposal, value added works in some foreign countries, similar to a sales tax...
The fairest method that congress voted on was a progressive tax.  If everyone paid their fair share with out 'loopholes' for those willing to pay lobbyists, the system would work well.

What's fair?  Who decides it?  Progressive taxes is the the furthest from fair.  We are $14 Tillion in debt, NOBODY wants to pay.  Everybody want free money and somebody else to pay for it.  From the top to the bottom.

Progressive is just income tax without deductions..and its hardly fair. As long as someone is manipulating the tax rate based on income, it will never be fair.

Box you and I both know that over the decades the government has perverted the tax code to give their supporters/lobbyists tax breaks to get re-elected. It's time to trash the old progressive tax because it's unfair to people who can't afford high priced attorneys like GE does and end up paying no tax when in fact they made a large profit.

The VAT tax is just the tip of the iceberg on fixing this countries tax system. What about the folks who do not pay into social security once they reach....and I'm not too sure about this amount....$106,000? They no longer have to contribute. Will that continue also? I would hardly classify someone making $100K/year RICH/WEALTHY! But all the same, what would become of that little tax code?

Why do you continue to hate us rich people when we have lost so much money? We are victims of a corrupt government. I may have to go down to the DSS building and file for benefits to bring me back up to a poor persons level.

Thank God Obama doesn't get any of his nearly $1 BILLION in campaign financing from these rich people.  How much wealth with the one percent hold if the "Buffett Rule" was in effect?  The funny thing is, if these banks and automakers weren't bailed out and other industries weren't subsidized that number would probably look much differently.  By allowing the free market to correct itself by allowing the banks and other industries to fail would have punished the 'rich' much more severe than current corporatism disguised as tax and regulation.  The more Americans scream for the government intervention to correct it, the more the power gets consolidated at the top and into fewer hands.

Box, I noticed your bar graph leaves out 2008 - 2011.  Very convenient.

It appears that the folks with the most money garner the most influence. Don't be fooled folks. There will always be wealthy people. They are needed to lobby the government, buy votes and create an economic environment dictated by the government.

So don't hold your breath on this one. It's all smoke and mirrors for an election year.
