O always loved how when he did a gig, he would be off the beat a hair going into a chorus, like a true jazz man. I notice Nelson conducting (he was not the greatest guy with a stick but the best arranger in pop music for 30 years) Al Viola on guitar and Ted Nash with the tenor sax. Was there anyone else who had the "best" of the best on a consistent basis. He and Riddle would consistenty have the very best session men on the West Coast. Sweets Edison did most of his trumpet obbligatos and when he was not available it was Pete Condoli(. The best players of the day who were free agents!) Occasionally you run into someone who "doesn't get it" about Sinatra or who "doesn't think he is a great singer." Invariably you can ask them- "What instrument did you play?" to which the reply is "I never played an instrument!"
I think I will post up Peggy Lee with Pete Candoli obbligatoing on Black Coffee. he is the guy that did the terrific work on Sinatra's "Come Rain or Come Shine" (Sinatra and Strings)...
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Harry Edison (Count Basie orchestra and consistent Sinatra sideman throughout the 50s and 60s- Songs for Swinging Lovers etc)

Go listen to the original studio version of "Luck be a Lady" by Sinatra with the full Billy May treatment. Now check out this sparse Quincy Jones-Count Basie live version! Of course with Basie the live performances suffered from lack of strings but the studio work on the 2nd album arranged (not the first with Neal Hefti) by Quincy- doing his best to emulate Nelson Riddle who was his arranging mentor and idol (listen to Dinah Washington with Quincy arranging and you will hear it)...You will hear the Riddle "Swingin' Lovers" sound particularly on "More" on that record... This is More (Mondo Cane) which is arranged by Q Jones for Basie and Sinatra with Sweets. How close a marriage between Count Basie and Nelson Riddle could you hope to ever hear? The ULTIMATE arranging and band combo!

After the instrumental bridge the second B chorus starts really building up and Frank gets really enthusiastic playing into the Basie band energy a LONNNNG LOOOOOOONNNGGGG TIME!" The outro is ALLLLL BASIE! Nelson always decrescendoed at the end!
