The original Texans were Spanish speaking ranchers and settlers... the name Texas (originally pronounced "ta has") was of Spanish origin.

Immigration is worse in many border states.  Arizona has a larger problem with Illegals, yet the poverty rate in Texas is equal to Mississippi.  The reason isn't Illegals... it's greed.

Top tier jobs pay reasonably well... but the market at the bottom is kept poor on purpose.  I know a man who worked as a machinist in the Northeast.  He moved to Texas and had his eyes opened.
Racism is rampant in Texas.  Against Mexicans, against Blacks, against anyone who speaks Spanish, against Jews, and even some against Catholics.  His description of upper level management is something out of the 60's.

He stuck it out for 2 years with Toyota in Texas, and left to get back to "real America" as he puts it.  (BTW, he's center Right in his politics).

He voted for GWB willingly the first time and reluctantly the second time.  He voted against Obama. He was for the Iraq war and supports 2nd amendment.

Yea right.

He worked for two companies, the last one being Toyota.  The first one was a middle size outfit that paid the going rate for skilled labor, but raped unskilled or low skilled labor.

They had a pay scale for low/unskilled labor.  Fork truck drivers, packers etc...
Their pay scale was good for these jobs, but started lower than most... at 6 month increments.  These jobs would last for 1 to 1/12 years, then they would lay off, one by one anyone who's about to go to the 3rd or 4th pay increment... wait a few days, then post for a new hire for the same jobs.  No one on the bottom ever lasted more than 2 years or advanced above the bottom few tiers on the pay scale.  
This practice is considered normal there.
So is hiring illegals but telling them because they were illegal they couldn't pay them the minimum wage.  They would start at $2 below the minimum wage, even though they showed up on the books at minimum wage.  They would hire as many as they could of this type labor (taking away jobs from legals and Americans at minimum wage).  The $2 would go in their pocket.

While skiing in Colorado, we overheard several of the hotel staff discussing "Texans" in a very disparaging way.  I asked why Texas??? Was it a sports rivalry??? Football rivals???
They all agreed NO.  It was Texans.  They are the worst guests in the hotel.  I didn't see any of this but they said it was an every day occurrence there.
"Go into the bar, the loudest, most obnoxious patrons will almost always be Texans.  They push ahead in the lift lines, complain about the food, and are rude to the other guests."
"Too Much Money... NO Class".

When I asked others about this, they said it was the same where ever you ski in the Rockies... when the Texans come, everyone else leaves.
I'm sure this is a generality, but the few loudmouth Texans made an impression on the hotel staff.

No wonder businesses want to move there.  They still are paying a lot more than China does.

I'm sure the "Texan" stereotype is like the "New Yorker" stereotype.  Anytime I've been out of state and told people I'm from NY, they immediately think of NYC and think everybody is a rude big city slicker.  I'm sure the same goes for Texas, everybody from Texas is a rich oil man that wears a 10 gallon cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and drives around in a convertible Cadillac with steer horns as a hood ornament.

Your story most certainly is just a generality and a very nasty, unjustified attempt to disparage all the people of one state.

I met MANY very nice people during my visit in Texas --- I didn't see or hear any of these supposed loud and obnoxious Texans that you suggest populate the entire state.

The same unfounded stereotypes are spread about New Yorkers ----  and those stereotypes are untrue.

One of the worst Texas bashers was the manager of the Restaurants at the resort.  They had 5 or 6 restaurants (mid priced to exclusive) and a few sandwich shops and coffee/lunch cafes.  He said half of his complaints were from Texans.  They'd tell him that his Mexican chefs don't know how to cook Mexican food, and that they should learn to make Mexican food like they do in Texas.
He described the two worst parts of managing the food services was late food deliveries and Texans.

I hate NYS and if it weren't for my elderly Mom and my family here I would consider moving to a more tax friendly state.
