Was wondering when a student has an IEP and is three grades below reading level and two grades below math level is the IEP working? Also why would special ed need a medicaid form signed if the child is NOT on medicaid and NOT recieving any treatment by the school district?
The only services this child recieving (well supposed to be) is resource room one hour a day the rest of the time in regular classroom.
Going to be advocating for a child and need info ASAP thanks.

I would set up a meeting with the child's teacher and see what is going on. In my experience it would depend on the child and the level of learning capabilities. As for the medicaid, I have no idea. Unless its for funding to the school. |

Ira, I disagree. There's many students who just need some additional help to bring them up to par with the other students. This, over time, does cost additional money, but at the same time, helps these students to be able to get back onto a track that can become equal with other students at their age group. It may take some time (years, even, depending the level that the students are at), but it does work. I've personally seen it.
RP, as far as what the student needs, you give where they are now. How long have they been in the IEP, and how much of the gap that they had when they started have they been able to recover? The IEP's I have seen usually state not only the grade level, but where in that grade level the student is. You should be able to see a trend over at least 2, possibly 3. As far as the Medicaid forms, I'm not really sure on that. |
