Cuomo orders inspections after latest local earthquake

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo is ordering the inspection of a hydro-power dam in Schoharie County after a mild earthquake today.

Cuomo says while the 2.9 magnitude earthquake centered near Altamont about 10:30 a.m. was small, he has ordered an immediate inspection of nearby infrastructure as a precaution. That includes the New York Power Authority’s Blenheim-Gilboa Dam.

The earthquake comes as the region braces for Hurricane Irene and four days after a 5.8 magnitude earthquake centered in Virginia was felt in the area.
