I am just glad that this damn storm isn't Hurricane Sebastien" or "Hurricane Justin" or some other effeminate guy's name. The whole thing where they use a man's name makes me sick.

This from a guy named "Graham Bonnet"!  LMAO!

I have gas stove, propane, batteries and 10 gallons of drinkable water, (and municipal water) a generator, & lots of food.

If your power does go out for any length of time, the solar lights that light our walkway make good room lights for 6 or 7 hours after a power outage.  They will recharge somewhat even on a cloudy day.

Camping candles & holder will light a room for 12 hours per candle.

I also have a 12 volt battery from my ATV that will light a 12 volt trouble light for a long time before it's necessary to start the ATV to recharge the battery.

Our neighborhood has lots of 100 year old trees, many with dead limbs just waiting for a soaking rain, then a gust of wind to come crashing down.

I don't expect many problems here.

And if you listen to other news outlets, you'd think that the earth was about to open up and swallow us all. Geez get a grip. It's weather. It happens.

SO TRUE!!! A friend of mine's kid lives in north caroline. They talked to their kid just about an hour ago. They stayed home and said the worse is over for them. They said it was no big deal. And yes they live 10 min from the coast. They are with out power and their roof is leaking by their fireplace.

The media is just so disappointed!!! I watched one media outlet that was sensationalizing the fact that ONE shingle blew off a roof. He made it sound like someone just died!!! PATHETIC!

I have a theory about the local "sky is falling" media folks. Ya ever notice whenever a weather event is being forecast how folks run to the store to "stock up". Well I firmly believe that the supermarkets and hardware stores are paying the media guys (weathermen) to make as dire predictions as possible in an effort to boost sales. Talk about conspiracy theories eh.

Oh you aren't alone. Many folks have said the same thing. that's why many folks take 'basic' precautions.....they don't fall for the 'sky is falling' bullcrap. folks are becoming desensitized to the news' fear/scare tactics.

Unfortunately, someday the media may be correct on their predictions...but it will be too late.....folks won't believe them.

Chicken Little????

I have had rifles & shotguns, since my teens, and pistols since my 20's.
I doubt I'll ever have to use a gun against another human being again, but I do know how, and would use them to protect my life.

I wouldn't kill anyone if he were stealing my television set, or a loaf of my bread... and anyone who would... just might regret that choice.  I know I would.

In Albany the Mayor declared a State of Emergency. Meanwhile, over in Schenectady- zzzzzzzzzzz. Can't wait to hear the County's Emergency Management "leader" say how shocked he is by Stockade flooding. Like he says every Spring. Has Lady Ga-Ga made a statement?

I have always laughed at channel 13's First WARNING weather identifier.  Talk about hype.

I swear the weather folks get a high out of events like this, they thrive on it.

Yes, storms can get deadly no doubt and to be informed about an event that could present dangers is good but hype is not good.

The things that are going to happen as a result of this weather event can happen and to be prepared is good but this hyping things up and presenting with a disappointment things are not worse is horrible.

I saw that same coverage where this guy talked about the shingles coming off as if an atom bomb went off.   This is so wrong.  It leads to invalidating all reporting.

I'm actually a big fan of extreme weather. Prob'ly comes from being home alone as a 13yr old as a tornado roared through Rotterdam in 1960. I've been in hurricanes in Fla., floods in Northern Cali., the stockade and Burtonsville. Seen the power of mudslides, blizzards and ice storms. I love thunder and lightning. I'm in awe of mother nature. I'm just not intimidated by any of it.

Acting McCarthy has filmed a Hurricane PSA for OSM! Showing it 24X7 on Channel 16. That should get him 2 more votes.
