Even legal workers are concerned with HB 87.

"I heard people talk about some of these legal guys are going to leave the state, and I didn't really believe that. But that's happening now," said Drew Echols, farm manager at Jaemor Farms in Alto. "Folks are scared to death. It's hard to get this community to understand what this law does."
"Fruits and vegetables in Georgia were worth $1.1 billion. We could see a $200 (million) to $250 million loss, potentially,"

Don't ya just love this Racist Conservative Legislation... Way to go Georgia!
Ya got rid of your illegals... now pass me that $7 Peach!

Then tell me what you would do to solve the illegal immigration problem?
If we are not going to punish, imprison, or deport the illegals ( which I agree is not the way to go) , then we have to do something about the reason they are here... the job sources.
Of course, we could just ignore it, like we have the last 30 years...

that was the system of 'the man' the hippies forgot to fix....big corporate farming...from the dusted crops to the dusted shelves at
your local 'fresh' grocery store.....

dont get me wrong, I ain't no farmer and I to indulge in this feeding....dont let them scare ya into a $7 peach...we too can let 'em rot

oh, but wait....there goes another pension/401k loss of value.......oh, wait for it, yup that would be QE3 and the central banks all
lining up to feed themselves.....

George Worst Bush (the worst President in US History) DID HAVE ONE GOOD IDEA...
When running for office, Bush proposed a 'guest worker program' that would have addressed the issue of illegals, yet allowed immigrants to work in the USA legally for a short period of time.
Unfortunately, the Sept 11 attacks and opposition from Right Wing Racists killed his plan before it ever got off the ground.

As a border governor, Bush saw the need for these workers, and knew the problems associated with drugs crossing the border mixed in with the flood of illegals.  Once you allow guest workers to enter the US legally, the only ones jumping the border would be terrorists and drug dealers.

GWB was a terrible president, but this is one issue he did have right.

The state of Georgia has done a fine job  of ridding themselves of their illegals...
The farmers of Georgia are paying premium wages to find someone... anyone to pick and pack their produce.  Some of their crop will be left in the field because there is no one who will pick or pack it.   Because of this laborer shortage, many farms may go out of business.

Way to go Georgia!

Unemployment is 9%...HOW THE HELL IS THERE A SHORTAGE OF LABOR???  I think it's a surplus of lazy bums that believe they are entitled to a specific vocation and wage, and our government allows and even encourages people to continue that destructive behavior, by allowinng people to continue to collect unemployment and welfare benefits when obviously there are jobs available.

just confess that you just don't understand how the white man slowly made use of less expensive labor in America the last hundred years-

I just bought some summer flame peaches for 85 cent a pound

it's not just the whiteman.....it's an entire system that encompasses the globe....always has been and always will be....the problem
is when we 'get comfortable'....the strings for the cost of that peach are being pulled by other nations all connected to the central
banking system...consumers and labor are just pawns....

BTW...those in charge all over the globe aren't just 'whitemen'.....just like Jesus isn't a blue eyed blond

But this doesn't address the increase in wages that will be required to attract legal workers.
I thought that was the basis of your comments...any change in the status quo will result in increased wages AND retail prices.

The article continues: "Many older people are finding themselves in a position they never expected to be in at retirement age: still working or in need of a job." This is true. But whose fault is it? The voters. Their parents voted for politicians who voted for the welfare state. They imitated their parents. Now the bills are coming due, as they do in every ponzi scheme. Yet the victims seem surprised. This is a self-inflicted wound.

The article covers recent developments: the fall in stock market prices over the last 30 days, the decline of interest rates since 2008, and falling housing prices. All of this is true, and it is going to get much worse.

I'm scared to death of what this country may become... You won't have the civilized order of Japan after their tsunami. Cities will be war zones and even good sized towns won't be safe. We have cultivated a segment of our society that thinks they are entitled to benefits we can no longer pay. I am seriously considering moving out in to the country.
This entitlement shortfall will effect EVERY segment of our society.

For much of American history, Mexican workers would cross the border to work as laborers for the picking season.  Once the crop was harvested they would return to Mexico and their families.
Under GWB's guest worker plan, they would continue to do so... there would be no change in the wages paid for this work so no impact on prices.
