A hair-thin electronic patch that adheres to the skin like a temporary tattoo could transform medical sensing, computer gaming and even spy operations, according to a US study published Thursday. The micro-electronics technology, called an epidermal electronic system (EES), was developed by an international team of researchers from the United States, China and Singapore, and is described in the journal Science.
"It's a technology that blurs the distinction between electronics and biology," said co-author John Rogers, a professor in materials science and engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Gaming? Yeah, sure thing. Ask any gamer how quickly technology goes out of date. Medical? Right. If you're so worried about being identified after you collapse while jogging, then go get a regular tattoo, on the bottom of your foot with any relevant information.
Spy? That's laughable. I don't buy into the whole bunker mentality thing, but having one of those hideous objects implanted in your body, isn't exactly going turn you into 007. You WILL NOT be granted a license to kill, nor will you receive a magic briefcase, wrist watch, or car.
Chances are, it will be used to spy on YOU, especially if you work for the government, are on probation, or fall into any misconstrued auspice of the Patriot ActTM.
