This is the original story as reported by the NY Times. Between the two you can get a full look see. The Times story is telling.

NY Times http://www.nytimes.com/ Reaping Millions in Nonprofit Care for Disabled By RUSS BUETTNER Published: August 2, 2011 The brothers, Philip and Joel, earned close to $1 million a year each as the two top executives running a Medicaid-financed nonprofit organization serving the developmentally disabled. They each had luxury cars paid for with public money. And when their children went to college, they could pass on the tuition bills to their nonprofit group. Keep in mind this organization appears from the article to have a good reputation for quality care but that still does not excuse the issue of execs getting such outrageous salaries and the other abuses of Medicaid dollars. |

It's about time. Our governor begrudges a state worker doing some crappy but necessary job (such as prison guard) receiving a paycheck for the servicethey provide to the taxpayer, while we see those at the top of the chain living the high life. Here in Schenectady we see those with their hand out in a clique with the political class spending their time thinking of ways to better their lot and the lot of those with connections, while billing the taxpayer. They get their pictures in the paper and give each other awards like they are the elite or something. A lot of these nonprofits, in my opinion, overlap in purpose and exist mainly to provide high paying jobs to those who know the right people. |

To further this point, the people who abuse the welfare system are of the same moral turpitude as those stealing in the non-profit sector. Both sets of indiviudals don't care how they get the money or how they spend it, they'll just keep getting more and more of it because they can. There is no contemplation that this money is from hard-working taxpayers, and these people have complete disregard when it comes to spending this 'found' money. Billions of taxpayer money is wasted everyday by abuse. |

I heard that Mercury Morris is shocked and appalled by all this! Too many making much more than him. |

Well they should also be taken to task. They could be earning that high a salary so that they meet the requirement that "all funds not used at the end of the year by a nonprofit have to be turned back into the organization" Maybe by paying them a high salary they use up all the funds. Just an idea not sure there is any weight to it. |

Here in NY you have the entitled at the top and an ever increasing entitled class at the bottom and each supports the other, with votes and handouts, and the average citizen gets to pay more and more for less and less benefit. |

Schenectady County is famous for useless, overpaid nonprofit "leaders". So what if less goes to those in real need? More working together BS. Only SICM keeps it's salaries reasonable. City Mission, Proctor's, Bethesda House were all on top of the overpaid list. Only Bethesda House has cleaned up it's act. |
