I meant only to confirm that the chickens were kept at Angelo's property on Conqua Lane when I last visited his home in 2009. But, your post led me to investigate. According to the property tax records, the property is listed as property class 210 (see content below that was cut and pasted from online property tax records).

According to the NYS Office of Real Property Tax Services, property class 210 is defined as Residential - One Family Year-Round Residence.
200 - Residential - Property used for human habitation. Living accommodations such as hotels, motels, and apartments are in the Commercial category - 400
200 - RESIDENTIAL
210 - One Family Year-Round Residence A one family dwelling constructed for year-round occupancy (adequate insulation, heating, etc.).
Further, poultry and poultry products are restricted to properties that are classified as Agricultural Class 111.
100 - AGRICULTURAL
105 - Agricultural Vacant Land (Productive) Land used as part of an operating farm. It does not have living accommodations and cannot be specifically related to any of the other divisions in the agricultural category. Usually found when an operating farm is made up of a number of contiguous parcels.
110 - Livestock and Products

I will admit that I'm not intimately familiar with Rotterdam Town Code, but, based on the information that I have located, it appears that keeping a dozen chickens is not appropriate for Residential Class 210. If someone can provide documentation to the contrary, I will stand corrected.

I made no assertion about any criminal act by anyone. Only reported what the property tax records state. Clearly Residential class 210 from the public records to which I have access. Further, I stated that I am unfamiliar with the Rotterdam Town code. There may be something in it that allows having chickens. You may recall that there was just a big "debate" about this issue in the City of Albany. Mayor Jennings vetoed a change that was approved by the Albany Common Council to allow chickens to be kept within the city in residential areas.

So now with the economy in the tanker, many are thinking of raising chickies to save $$$$ and help out their family and neighbors!! Back when Angelo and I were friends and political allies (before he betrayed those to who he had promoted himself as a conservative), I visited him at his home on Conqua Lane several times. I can state that, at that time, the chickens were there. He had built a structure (coup) for them. That was several years ago. I don't know if he continues to keep them at his residential R-1 zoned property.
Either way, the coverage by OSM is chicken crap in my opinion.

RURAL???? Looking on the google map (which may be outdated) the property appears to be by the thruway and a hop skip and a jump from the golub warehouse with a huge development to it's back and another to it's front!!
Not that it really matters, cause there are now folks from the east and west side of rotterdam looking to do the same thing. Especially the new legal immigrants that now reside in rotterdam. Raising animals for food is part of their culture and it appears to be catching on to save $$$.
I think it's a great idea!!! In fact, a guy I work with, who is an avid hunter, and his wife, who lives in colonial manor is planning to have a full fledged chicken coup by September. He said that between his hunting and the chickens, they should be able to save tons on their grocery bill.
