While I disagree that this is something that needs to be taught in school, at least this is government acting at the appropriate level.

so if the gay community wants to be excepted as an 'equal'....why are they creating a 'slot' just for themselves? It's a 'life style'......yes? And will it be broken down into black gays, jewish gays, white gays, muslim gays etc?

I'm a big supporter of gay rights, but I don't see how this helps or is even a relevant issue?

The rule is, in the name of equality, you must pander to the newly politicized group and give said group exclusive treatment separating them from all other groups for a period of one month.  That is the liberal definition of equality.
