Luckily for you NYS made fireworks illegal.

I think a more common sense law would be proximity laws.  Sort if like burn barrel laws.   Limiting the size and type of fireworks based on population density.  Sparklers in city limits – makes sense.  Shells that get launched into the air in city limits – doesn’t make sense.  Banning all fireworks - stupid - giving millions in business to boardering states.

Not really... laws are useless if not properly enforced. My boat burned on the shore. There was no motor or gas near it and no lightning strikes in the area. My cousin saw the roman candle go in it, but he checked the boat and couldn't find it in the near pitch dark. The candle smoldered for 2 hours before it lit the boat.
No proof of who set it off, boat and homeowners insurance did not cover it because the accident happened on state land (Sacandaga Lake).

Right... We should allow all kinds of incendiary devices in ... The country... away from people... allow them in dry hay fields... near  barns... forests, you know in the country!

Good point, seeing how all the states where fireworks are legal are ravaged with forest and field fires.  Firework deaths are at epidemic proportions in these barbaric states like Pennsylvania.

Man, you liberals have an irrational fear of guns, fireworks, and the Bible.

You'd think that fireworks hitting a private boat like Kevin's incident would be a rare occurance... especially when the boat was in the water, away from cities as was proposed.

(BTW Kevin.  I had a sailboat tied to a dock on my beach that ended up with the canvas burned from illegal July 4th fireworks...
and
I worked with a guy who had a lot of damage when fireworks started a small fire in the front of his boat.  It burned the seats and some of the inner hull that was located OVER THE BOATS GAS TANK.)

But... Americans must be Free to celebrate the 4th and burn down their neighbors property!!!

My boat was on the trailer about 20 yards from the water to be put in the next weekend.
The boat was wooden with about 8-10 coats of spar varnish. Needless to say, it went up like an inferno. People who saw the fire (it started about 1:30am) said flames where 25-30ft tall. The steel trailer warped from the heat.

Come on people, let's show a little sympathy for those living in the areas where fireworks are used like WMDs. If you live with considerate neighbors, some responsible adult sets off a few mild fireworks for the delight of the kids, consider yourself fortunate. Remember, that teen murderer in Yates Village was involved with setting fire to one of the buildings with fireworks. Kind of like a starter crime. Also reports were in the news yesterday of a young man, (not local) killed by exploding SPARKLERS.
There are whole areas of Schenectady now that have been ceded over to anarchy. Anything short of murder goes. Want to have a parade, don't stop forany red lights? Fine. The cops have better things to do. Only they've been using that excuse since 1970, at least, and it's worn out. See how much "quality of life" you get when you cease law enforcement?

Fireworks are OK, but there oughtta be a limit!

I’m all for celebrating the 4th of July; it’s an important holiday.
However, there should be a limit on the hour where neighborhood fi reworks should be allowed.
After 10 p.m., and just about all through the evening and into early morning, is unreasonable.

That is the way it should be handled, as we see the firework laws here in NY didn't stop thousands of people from doing them any ways. How many people are lighting off fireworks in alleys and backyards because they don't want to get caught by the police, probably the majority. We need common sense laws which rule on the side of safety. Banning items completely never works and leads to more disasterous outcomes, always has always will.

Making them legal will not change where people light them off...they do it where they live.
I have no problem legalizing things that effect ONLY the individual or group doing them (i.e helmets on motorcycles, even some drug use), but I do have a problem with legalizing things that could injure or kill innocent bystanders.

You can't legislate stupid out of people and there's no cure for it.

That is true, but if making it illegal reduces the level of stupidity, then so be it.
