I thought fireworks were illegal to possess in NY?
Quoted Text

IV. STATES THAT BAN ALL CONSUMER FIREWORKS (including those that are allowed by CPSC regulations) - (total of 4 states):

Delaware
Massachusetts
New Jersey
New York

There are some SERIOUS pyrotechnics going up in Rotterdam tonight - and not a police officer in sight.

Why have laws if you're not going to enforce them?

Ironically, not one of the 4 houses putting on this particular show ever flies an American Flag ... let alone today.

Do they know the meaning of the day? Or is it just a day to waste money on entertaining the neighborhood, risking injury or arrest?

...civil disobedience for an unjust law that impinges on freedom.

Good, then they won't have a problem if I target shoot in the front yard?  Oh wait, I'm not licensed in NY, but that shouldn't matter, right?

On Eastern between Prospect and Nott Terrace they were have a ball.

It was so bad they had half the street blocked off with all the stuff to shoot off those real big displays the road is a mess now.  I am sure littered with lots of neat things to puncture a tire with.

Where are the cops?  Most likely going after some low life drug addict or alchy that is beating up his wife or girlfriend.

I don't have to much issue with fireworks although I do get somewhat concerned with the bottle rockets near our house since we have a flat roof but what they were doing on Eastern Ave blocking a road one used by ambulances is going to far.

The fireworks here started around 9pm and I woke up at 1am and they were still going. I always tell my relatives don't worry about going to Scotia or Albany just sit on my front porch : )  There are always a few houses in the area that have the really good ones and they go non stop for hours. I can only imagine how much they cost

I too like Cel just worry about where they land.

Just drove up Eastern.  Wow someone did a great job of cleaning it all up.  Not a morsel to be found.  The only thing I can think of is they had a fire truck come in and hose down all the ashes and stuff.

Hopefully the folks shooting the fireworks off had to pick up all the tubes first.

In my experience, cops/firefighters are usually the ones lighting the pyrotechnics.

You'll think that way until something of yours get destroyed by fire.

Also full of stupidity... Like using EXPLOSIVES near residential areas and allowing children to handle explosives.
If someone wants to use fireworks in residential areas, let them get INSURED then I have no problem.
Your "right" to fire off explosives does not trump my right to protection of my property.

Luckily for you NYS made fireworks illegal.

I think a more common sense law would be proximity laws.  Sort if like burn barrel laws.   Limiting the size and type of fireworks based on population density.  Sparklers in city limits – makes sense.  Shells that get launched into the air in city limits – doesn’t make sense.  Banning all fireworks - stupid - giving millions in business to boardering states.

Right... We should allow all kinds of incendiary devices in ... The country... away from people... allow them in dry hay fields... near  barns... forests, you know in the country!
