The average monthly casualty rate for U.S. military forces serving in Afghanistan has increased 5-fold since President Barack Obama was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2009.

1,540 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since Oct. 7, 2001, when U.S. forces began fighting in that country to oust the Taliban regime that had been harboring al Qaeda and to track down and capture or kill al Qaeda terrorists.

During the Bush presidency, which ended on Jan. 20, 2009 with the inauguration of President Obama, U.S. troops were present in Afghanistan for 87.4 months and suffered 570 casualties—a rate of 6.5 deaths per month.

During the Obama presidency, through today, U.S. troops have been present in Afghanistan for 29.1 months and have suffered 970 casualties—a rate of 33.3 deaths per month.

Had GW Bushy continued to fight AlQaeda in Afghanistan instead of pulling out our troops for his oil war in Iraq, he may have actually succeeded and killed Bin Laden, and eliminated the enemy...
Instead he abandoned Afghanistan and left the war to Obama.

Afghanistan will continue to suck American casualties and wealth until we leave.

So Obama tripled down putting in thousands of additional troops. Say we won and leave. Someone tell Obama there is no oil in Afghanistan.

Obama is not comfortable with victory. There is a troubling tape of his feelings about this which sound exactly like Box. He's not interested in a military victory-ANYWHERE. He has zero military and foreign policy expertise. He makes Jimmy Carter look like a foreign policy genius. Meanwhile Iran is on the brink of nuclear weapons while Obama dithers and calls Syria a moderate Arab state.

Unlike his predecessor (George Worst Bush) who did have military experience...
and who spent 6 years looking for Osama Bin Laden... and failed...

President Obama, with NO military experience, managed to kill Osama Bin Laden in his first 2 years in office.
God Bless President Barack Hussein Obama!

The War??? There was a strategy in the Afghanistan war???

As I remember George Worst Bush saying we went to Afghanistan to attack AlQaeda and kill Osama BinLaden.  We've done both of those things. (thanks to President Obama)

I don't care if the Taliban are in power or some US installed temporary puppet government.  Our mission is over.  Let the Afghans worry about Afghanistan.

US Afghanistan troop strength at the beginning of Obama's term was 30,000
It is now 103,000. Even with the 35,000 troop reduction , completed a month or two before election day, we will still have 68,000 troops there.. or 38,000 more then when Obama took office.

Better than that Tbird...
As the US Commander in Chief, he was in charge of the entire operation... and responsible for it's outcome.

God Bless Barack Hussein Obama!

Then he also responsible for the 38,000 EXTRA troops that will still be in Afghanistan come Election day 2012.
All for a war where we have NO vital US interests, propping up a corrupt government.

YUP! As commander in chief, he's responsible for all military actions.

(Just as George Worst Bush is responsible for the 4400+ us troops killed in his optional unnecessary Oil war in Iraq)

I'm glad to see you support Barack's continuation of Bush's foreign policy of pre-emptive military strikes against nations like in Yemen, Pakistan, and now spreading democracy in Libya.  The Nobel Peace Prize winner is showing us why he deserved that award.

Box has clearly lost it. He thinks Israel lost the 1973 war when they mopped the floor with the Arabs and had an entire Egyptian army surrounded. Now he thinks Obama is some great military leader. Obama is a total failure. No one cares about Bin Laden-a blind pig finding an acorn. Obama is finished next year. A smart DEM should primary him. Even Al Gore and President Clinton are now attacking him. Obama should keep working on his golf game-that's the only thing possibly improving under his incompetent "leadership".

Obama did not need to escalate this...that was his choice and the deaths are on his hands...in your words, it was optional.
