Tonko recently proclaimed a new bill he is sponsoring. This is my response to him via popvox.com, a website for easily contacting your rep or senator:
I oppose H.R. 1959: To deny certain tax benefits to oil and gas companies and to invest because this is a Pre-Memorial Day grandstanding and blame-shifting bill that will only add to the cost of gasoline. The real blame lies with the president's impeding domestic oil exploration and production. I love wind turbines and solar panels, but the cost in national security and economic growth of abandoning oil in the meantime is huge. It will be a long time, if ever, before so-called clean energy will replace fossil fuels. You have enough experience in energy to know this. I'm sure the jihadists will love you for this bill, but you're hurting your country.

You don't the half of it. Not just this moronic bill. Tonko also embarrassed himself by signing a petition attempting to end the naval blockade on Hamas murders. He was one of 20 extreme leftists in Congress to sign. He is more concerned with political correctness than stopping huge missiles from being fired into Israeli schools and hospitals. Next time you hear him drone on about human rights ask him about terrorists rights to arm themselves. A useful idiot.

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. -- Congressman Paul Tonko unveils a new plan aimed at driving down gas prices.
Tonko is pushing HR-1959, called the Pain at the Pump Act. Tonko says the bill would end subsidies and tax breaks currently enjoyed by oil companies. At the same time, it would also instead use that money to invest in clean energy resources.
Tonko says by closing those tax loopholes, the government would save nearly $3.5 billion by the end of 2012. Ultimately, the congressman says, it's money that oil industry just doesn't deserve, or need.
"Thirty six billion dollars is the profit to date this year for the oil industry. They are enjoying historic largest profits in their industry's run and it is important for us to recognize that if we don't do something here, if we don't adjust our behavior in Washington, they will over the next decade as an industry get $44 billion," said Paul Tonko.
The Pain at the Pump Act has been referred to several House committees for consideration.

Half of American companies pay NO TAXES! Exxon/Mobile or GE are not an aberration. They funnel their taxable dollars into foreign accounts to avoid taxes.
Since the recent increase at the pump is NOT caused by a supply problem... increasing the supply won't fix the problem. The latest round of gas increases was caused by speculation due to Middle East unrest... not by supply.
